  1. Procedures for using TechSmith Foray PPP Server 
  2. on the same machine with Windows 95
  3.  
  4.  
  5. The Foray PPP server will run on the version of 
  6. DOS supplied in Windows 95 (DOS 7.0). It will NOT run 
  7. inside a DOS "box" under the Windows 95 GUI itself 
  8. (windowed or full screen).
  9.  
  10. To facilitate this dual use of the system, several steps
  11. must be taken in the installation and configuration 
  12. of the target machine.  The following assumes a
  13. default configuration of Windows 95.
  14.

  17. To start the Foray PPP Server from within Windows 95:
  18.  
  19. 1.  Under Windows 95, UNZIP the Foray server package into 
  20.     a temporary directory on a local hard disk (not 
  21.     a network drive).  Read the README.1ST text file.  
  22.     If the distribution contains an MS-DOS shortcut 
  23.     named "4APPPSRV.PIF" skip to step 12.

  25. 2.  From Windows Explorer, view your Windows 95 directory.
  26.  
  27. 3.  Right-click on the COMMAND.COM file and select Create
  28.     Shortcut from the context menu.
  29.  
  30. 4.  Drag the new shortcut onto the desktop.
  31.  
  32. 5.  Right-click on the shortcut and select "Properties".
  33.  
  34. 6.  Select the "Program" tab on the property sheet.
  35.  
  36. 7.  Select the "Advanced" button.
  37.  
  38. 8.  Select the "MS-DOS Mode" and "Specify a new MS-DOS 
  39.     Configuration" options.
  40.  
  41. 9.  Select the "Configuration..." button and uncheck 
  42.     the "Mouse" option on the resulting dialog then 
  43.     click the "OK" button.  
  44.  
  45. 10. Add the NOEMS option to the EMM386.EXE line 
  46.     in the CONFIG.SYS box.  Delete everything 
  47.     in the AUTOEXEC.BAT box.
  48.  
  49. 11. Click "OK" in the Advanced and subsequent 
  50.     Properties dialog boxes.
  51.  
  52. 12. Double-click on the shortcut and answer Yes 
  53.     to the warning dialog.  You may have to close some 
  54.     or all Windows applications for the switch to MS-DOS 
  55.     mode to continue.  The system should then reset 
  56.     and bring you to a DOS prompt.
  57.  
  58. 13. Change to the directory where the Foray Server files 
  59.     were placed and execute INSTALL.BAT to install 
  60.     and configure the Foray Server.
  61.  
  62. 14. After installation, reboot the system to test the server 
  63.     and make any necessary  configuration changes.

  65. 15. Reboot the system and press ESC when prompted 
  66.     to return to Windows 95 mode.

  68. 16. You should now be able to simply double-click 
  69.     the new shortcut when you want to run the 
  70.     Foray PPP Server. You can rename 
  71.     (i.e., "Foray PPP Server") or move the 
  72.     shortcut as you wish.
