- |
- | NOTE:This Information APAR does not replace any document
- | of 3COM (The vendor and author of the Driver and NIF
- | file) but offers installation assistance with ES 1.0
- | and Communications Manager/2.
- |
- | A. The 3COM Option disk, shipped with the adapter, has DOS
- | and OS2 drivers. These drivers are NOT interchangeable.
- | We will discuss the OS2 driver that is used by
- | COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER. The OS2 Driver (ELNK3.OS2)
- | is located in the NDIS OS directory on the Option Disk.
- |
- | B. IBM LAN Adapter and Protocol Support (LAPS) will install
- | the NDIS driver and .NIF if the .NIF is in the format
- | recognized by LAPS. The OS2 .NIF file on the Option
- | disk is NOT in this format although it is an NDIS file.
- | 3COM considers LAPS to be an auto-install program and
- | has written another .NIF in this format. This .NIF is
- | available on 3COM's BBS, 1-800-764-7130. Download
- | IBMNIF.EXE which is a self extracting file. Look in
- | the "LATEST" directory for LS509OS2.NIF. (LS507OS2.NIF
- | can also be found here)
- |
- |3. 07/07/93 INSTALLING OVERVIEW
- |
- | A. The .NIF file that is in LAPS's format and the OS2
- | Driver must be placed in the same directory.
- |
- | B. Execute LAPS (ES1 uses Communication Manager/ Advanced/
- | Configuration/ LAN Adapter and Protocol Support
- | (OPTION #6); for Communications Manager/2, issue
- | LAPS on an OS/2 command line). Select "Copy additional
- | network adapter drivers" option on the Option Menu.
- | Let LAPS copy the driver to the correct directory.
- |
- | C. Select "Configure Workstation" at the successful
- | completion of the copy. The Etherlink3 should now be
- | displayed in "Network Adapters" window and can be
- | install. The necessary protocols should be selected.
- |
- |4. 06/29/93 NOTES:
- |
- | A. ODINSUPP (Novell NetWare driver interface) is NOT NDIS.
- |
- | B. The DEVICE=d: IBMCOM MACS ELNK3.OS2 statement may need
- | to be added to CONFIG.SYS.
