  8. before.) While I list it as a 'coast restaurant' below, it can easily
  9. hold its own against any restaurant I've ever been to, the food is as
  10. good as I've ever had, the atmosphere is simple & airy & unpretentious.

  12. India Joze, while perhaps best known for the annual International
  13. Calamari Festival (fresh Monterey bay squid) also serves wonderful
  14. food inspired by indonesian, persian, thai, indian and most of the
  15. rest of the cuisines from that part of the world. (Yes, I do know
  16. where Persia is.) Every week or so, a new country is highlighted on a
  17. changing menu, with a standard menu as well. When we were there, the
  18. weekly menu was Indian. The squid cooked in a thai-inspired green
  19. curry sauce was exquisite, and even persuaded my dining companion, who
  20. had never before found a squid she liked. The relishes are among the
  21. most inspired such condimants I've ever had. For dessert, try a piece of
  22. chocolate cake or two or three... these people know better than to
  23. make desserts from those eastern cuisines. A fine restaurant, I hope
  24. to get to the squid festival this year.

  26. If you like squid, the proprietors have written _Calamari Cookbook_
  27. available at the restaurant, or from Ten Speed/Celestial Arts.

  29. And don't forget a squid t-shirt or two, so that the cognoscenti back
  30. home know where you been hangin out....

  33. they were once famous for but no longer do very often, apparently.)
