- YP SATCOM CHECKLIST
-
- MISSION: YPSATCOM/NATIXS automatically broadcasts your position and status
- at least once every 10 minutes to all other stations on the net. For this
- to work, the following conditions must be met:
-
- COMPUTER - and Screen on, Modem on, (AM/FM button out on KAM)
- HF RADIO - USB, SQLCH-min, RFGAIN max, XMT audio to auto
- 6260.0, 8442.0, 12664.0 KHz
- REMOTE - Set to Both or Handset. Volume set to 9 o'clock posn.
- Turn remote off to use HF voice on other voice freqs.
- SATNAV - ON and print interval (code 71) set to 5 minutes
-
- POSITION: Automatic if SATNAV is working. The P screen should show your
- latest posit. If SATNAV is inop, enter your fix using ctrl-F. Keep your
- SATNAV or FIX current even inport so your posit doesn't wander!
-
- STATUS: Use alt-B key to alter your BEACON status report everytime your
- situation changes or at least once a watch and after shifting power. The
- LATEST status of all stations may be displayed using the L key. THIS
- STATUS LINE IS YOUR PRIMARY MEANS FOR KEEPING SEANAV INFORMED! Keep it up-
- to-date at all times. IT MUST BE RE-ENTERED after all power shifts!
-
- SEND ONE LINE MESSAGE: Use S to send a one line message to any other boat
- or OPS or SATFAC. If the message is received by the other station, you
- will see an *ACK* on your screen and his computer will beep and display the
- message on the bottom of his screen. You may erase the outgoing line with
- the E key and kill incommming lines with the K key. Only your one, topmost
- un-ACKed message is active. If conditions are poor, or the other station
- is not on line, this one line will be tried once a minute forever. Other
- outgoing message lines are stuck until each line is delivered in turn.
-
- NAMACS MESSAGE SYSTEM: NAMACS is an E-mail system accessible by anyone in
- the YARD using the NADN system. If HF conditions are good, you may be able
- to log onto the NAMACS system in Rickover to send and receive messages.
- Use CTRL-T to Talk directly to your TNC (modem). When you get the blue
- screen and TNC cmd: prompt, issue the connect command to NAMACS as follows:
-
- 6260.0 Primary C NAMACS
- 8442.0 Secondary C XLINK-8 then if connected, X NAMACS
- 12664.0 Secondary C XLINK-12 then if connected, X NAMACS
-
- NAMACS COMMANDS: Use the L command for a List of messages on the system.
- Use R XX to read message number XX. Use ST XXXXXX to send a traffic
- message to station XXXXX and wait for the SUBJ prompt. Enter a subject
- line and wait for the MESSAGE prompt. Type message lines and end with /EX
- on a new line (do not use Ctrl-Z!). Keep messages short. For multiple
- paragraphs, send multiple messages. You can improve chances of message
- getting through poor HF conditions by writing in short 40 char half-lines.
- Be careful while in the cmd: mode, there are over a hundred commands there
- which can screw up everything. Only use the C (connect) and D (disconnect)
- commands. When finished, hit escape to return to NATIXS.
-
- POWER DOWN: FIRST HIT M KEY TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ANY MESSAGE LINES PENDING.
- Then, Quit the program using the Q key and confirm with another Q. The
- system will save all current positions in a file named BACKUP.BK. The next
- time you run the system, you may LOAD the BACKUP.BK file using the CTRL-L
- command, or just wait until fresh posits come in. Turn off the computer
- and CRT screen power switches. Turn system off for shifting power.
-
-
-
-
- NAMACS is an E-MAIL system for leaving messages between the YP-SATCOM system
- and officers at the Academy on the NADN network. To connect with NAMACS from
- the boats, first use the NATIXS CTRL-T command to talk to your TNC. Then at
- the TNC cmd: prompt, issue the C NAMACS command. Wait for a response. If
- you are on either of the secondary frequencies, first C XLINK-8 (or -12) and
- then after a successful connect, issue the X NAMACS command to crosslink.
