  16. - Wat betreft het file formaat van de .FLW files:
  17.   onder de [Document] header zijn de volgende twee opties toegevoegd:
  18.    Levels=<n>
  19.    Version=<n.nn>
  20.   Hoewel de versie-indicatie optioneel is, is het sterk aan te raden
  21.   om deze toch op te nemen, zodat toekomstige versies van Flows de
  22.   files gegarandeerd correct kunnen verwerken.
  23. - Het refereren naar een FE kan op verschillende manieren:
  24.   door middel van het FE-nummer,
  25.   door middel van de FE naam tussen aanhalingstekens ("),
  26.   door middel van een nickname tussen scherpe haken (<,>).
  27.   Dit laatste gaat als volgt:
  28.   Een nickname wordt gedefinieert in het [Entities] item, achter de
  29.   entiteitsnaam en de eventuele level:
  30.    [Entities]

  33.    2~IOBC~ ~<BC_LEX>
  34.   De namen worden als volgt gebruikt:

  38.   De namen zijn case-sensitive. Spaties zijn niet toegestaan.
  39.   Het voordeel is dat information flows naar andere pagina's kunnen worden
  40.   gekopieerd waarbij dezelfde nicknames worden gebruikt maar ANDERE
  41.   entiteiten. De marges kunnen worden aangeduid met L en R of met 0 voor
  42.   links en 9 voor rechts (alleen op A4 portrait toegestaan).

  45. - Gedeeltelijk geimplemeteerde interaktieve omgeving.
  46. - Bug-fixes om met 386 memory-managers samen te werken.

  50. - Pulldown menu's en functietoetsenbalk beschikbaar, maar alle functie zijn

  54. ****** V3.0 voor DOS - beta II (half februari 1993)
  55. - Menusturing met muis beschikbaar. Alleen sommige Help-functies, Exit,
  56.   Run en Memory usage functioneren interaktief. De normale command line
  57.   opties werken nog steeds correct.
  58. - Bij EPS files wordt landscape nu ook werkelijk als landscape weergegeven.
  59. - Diverse andere aanpassingen.

  61. ****** V3.0 voor DOS - beta III (27-2-1993)
  62. - Menufuncties Open, Run, Clear, Retrieve settings, en gedeeltelijk Default
  63.   configuration zijn toegevoegd. Het statusscherm toont weer zinnige
  64.   informatie. De batchmode werk weer geheel. Reeds geselecteerde files op
  65.   de command line worden zichtbaar gemaakt in het statusvenster.
  66. - Open, Run en Clear worden inaktief gemaakt als ze niet uitgevoerd kunnen
  67.   worden.
  68. - Open is nu via een functietoets direct beschikbaar.
  69. - Het verlaten van het programma gaat met Alt-F4 (en Alt-X en Ctrl-Q). Het
  70.   sluiten van een donkergrijs interaktie-venster kan met ESC en Ctrl-F4.
  71.   Hierdoor wordt een sterkere overeenkomst met de uiteindelijke Windows
  72.   uitvoering bereikt.
  73. - Intern is een grondige revisie doorgevoerd ten aanzien van het inlezen
  74.   van command line waarden, FLOWS.INI instellingen, [Settings] instellingen,
  75.   [Document] instellingen en [Page=...] instellingen. Verder wordt nu een
  76.   source file eerst geheel gelezen, vervolgens vrijwel geheel geinterpreteerd,
  77.   en tenslotte pas ge-exporteerd.
  78. - Er is nu een zeer strikt onderscheid tussen de FLOWS.INI file en .INI files
  79.   van de gebruiker. Daarom is het aan te raden om voor de user-instellingen
  80.   de extensie .SET te gebruiken. Zodoende is het duidelijk dat het NIET om
  81.   INITIELE instellingen gaat.
  82. - Er heeft een herschikking plaatsgevonden van de plaats waar welke
  83.   instellingen kunnen worden gewijzigd c.q. aangemaakt. Deze herschikking is
  84.   gedeeltelijk ook van toepassing voor files voor oudere versie van Flows,
  85.   doch dit zijn niet tot essentiele problemen leiden.
  86. - ******************** LET OP! ********************************************
  87.   Vanaf versie 3.0 is in iedere .FLW file het [Document] item
  88.   VERPLICHT EN MOET TENMINSTE DE INSTELLING
  89.    Version = <n.nn>
  90.   BEVATTEN. Is dit niet aanwezig, dan wordt uitgegaan van een oude versie en
  91.   kunnen sommige nieuwe opties niet geaccepteerd worden. Voor versie 3.0 en
  92.   toekomstige hogere versienummers zal van het minor-versie nummer alleen
  93.   het eerst cijfer worden verwerkt. Dus 3.11 wordt ge-interpreteerd als 3.1.
  94.  
  95. ****** V3.0 voor DOS - beta IV (14-3-1993)
  96. - Op de functietoetsenbalk worden de optie Open en Run ook inaktief gemaakt
  97.   indien deze opties in de pulldown-menu's inaktief zijn.
  98. - Het opgeven van een filenaam in de FLOWS.INI file gaat nu ook correct
  99.   indien er "()\" in voor komen.
  100. - Command line switches kunnen vanaf nu worden vooraf gegaan met zowel een
  101.   "/" als een "-". Opties kunnen aan elkaar worden na de eerste "/" of "-".
  102.   Bijvoorbeeld:
  103.    FLOWS /IHM=eps -S=confer.set /D=c:\temp\blad est*.flw rel*.flw
  104.           ^^^
  105.   Na de opties /M, /S en /D mag geen volgende switch geplakt worden, omdat
  106.   dan geen onderscheid kan worden gemaakt tussen filenaam en switch.
  107.   Bij de user configuration files (optie /S) wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen
  108.   het opgegeven versienummer en de file-compatibiliteit. Er wordt aan de
  109.   hand van de gebruikte opties getest welke versie van Flows de file nog
  110.   correct zou kunnen interpreteren. Hierbij worden witregel binnen een item
  111.   buiten beschouwing gelaten.
  112. - De volgende opties zijn toegevoegd:
  113.     FirstPage, LastPage, ObsoleteLayout, OutlineImage,
  114.     PageOverlay, UserFormH, UserFormV, TwoLines.
  115.   Met PageOverlay kan bij uitvoer naar de printer meer dan 1 figuur per
  116.   pagina worden uitgedraaid. Dit wordt automatisch berekend.
  117. - In het [Title] item wordt nu niet meer alleen het eerste veld gelezen en
  118.   afgedrukt. Als een veld alleen bestaat uit een van de volgende codes, wordt
  119.   deze vervangen door de waarde die de code vertegenwoordigd:
  120.     ... ~ <Page#> ~ ...       wordt huidig paginanummer van [Page=n] header;
  121.     ... ~ <PageChr> ~ ...     wordt kleine letter, waarbij [Page=n] een "a"
  122.                               geeft als n = FirstPage (uit [Document] item);
  123.     ... ~ <RunPage#> ~ ...    wordt huidig uitvoerpaginanummer van Flows;
  124.     ... ~ <> ~ ...            wordt vervangen door 1 spatie (vanaf beta V).
  125. - Alternatieve opmaak werkt nu vrijwel geheel.
  126.  
  127. ****** V3.0 voor DOS - beta V (20-3-1993)
  128. - Correcte weergave van synchronisatiesymbolen uit [Flows] en [Sync] items.
  129.   Tevens correcte weergave van acties uit [Flows] en [Actions] items.
  130. - De geselecteerde files worden nu ook goed weergegeven nadat interaktief
  131.   nieuwe user-instellingen zijn ingelezen.
  132. - De optie TwoLines=... wordt nu ook verwerkt. Hiermee is het mogelijk om
  133.   te kiezen tussen 1 of 2 lijnen die vanuit de FE's naar beneden worden
  134.   getrokken.
  135. - De verticale positie van de FE's is nu ook correct wanneer geen datum en
  136.   geen auteursnaam worden afgedrukt.
  137. - In het [Title] item worden een veld dat slecht "<>" bevat vervangen door
  138.   precies 1 spatie. Dit is nuttig om tussen een tekst en een automatisch
  139.   paginanummer een spatie te kunnen voegen.
  140.  
  141. ****** V3.0 voor DOS - beta VI (21-3-1993)
  142. - Het openen van een file vanuit het "Select File" menu kan nu ook geheel
  143.   met het toetsenbord.
  144. - Deel van de nieuwe dummy entiteit "(PageBreak)" is reeds geimplementeerd.
  145.   Dit keywoord moet in het eerste veld staan van een regel binnen het
  146.   [Entities] item. Vanaf versie 3.0 moet nu ook de dummy entiteit
  147.   "(Blank)" in het eerste veld staan (was: eerste of tweede veld).
  148. - De variabelen voor de paginatitel worden het ronde haken "()" i.p.v.
  149.   scherpe haken "<>" weergegeven. Een niet herkende code wordt nu gewoon
  150.   afgedrukt, zodat normale teksten tussen haakjes geen problemen ondervinden.
  151.   Dus "<Page#>" wordt "(Page#)", enzovoort. De codes zijn nu niet meer
  152.   case-sensitive.
  153. - Programma is op verschillende punten efficienter uitgevoerd.
  154. - Nieuwe optie "AskConfirm=" in FLOWS.INI toegevoegd. Hiermee is het mogelijk
  155.   om het vragen bevestigingen uit te schakelen. Bijvoorbeeld na het drukken
  156.   op <Alt-F4>, <Alt-X> of <Ctrl-Q> om Flows te verlaten.

  159. - In plaats van de header [Flows] moet nu de header [InfoFlows] gebruikt
  160.   worden.

  183. - Concerning the file format of the .FLW files:
  184.   Following two options are added in the [Document] item:
  185.    Levels=<n>

  187.   The version indication is optional, but it is strongly recommended to
  188.   embody the "Version=" settings to preserve correct processing bij future
  189.   versions of Flows.
  190. - Reference to a FE may be achieved in several ways:

  193.   by using a nickname enclosed in angle brackets (<>).

  229. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta III (2-27, 1993)
  230. - Menu functions Open, Run, Clear, Retrieve settings, and partially Default
  231.   configuration are added. The status screen show sinfull information again.
  232.   The batch mode is fully operative. Already selected files (on the command
  233.   line) are displayed in the status window.
  234. - Open, Run and Clear go inactive if they cannot be executed.
  235. - Open is now directly available via s function key.
  236. - Leaving the program is now done by <Alt-F4> (and <Alt-X> and <Ctrl-Q>).
  237.   A dark grey interaction window can be achieved by <ESC> and <Ctrl-F4>.
  238.   These changes preserve a better similarity with the final Windows
  239.   implementation.
  240. - Large internal revisions are implemented concerning the reading of the
  241.   command line values, FLOWS.INI settings, [Settings] settings, [Document]
  242.   settings and [Page=...] settings. Now the complete source file is read,
  243.   and subsequently almost entirely interpret, and finally exported.
  244. - Now a very strict distinction exists between the FLOWS.INI file and other
  245.   .INI files created by the user. Therefor it is recommended to use the
  246.   extension .SET for user configuration files. Doing so it is clear that
  247.   these files do not contail INITIAL settings.
  248. - A total rearrangement has taken place of the position at which all settings
  249.   can be changed or created. This rearrangement is partially even relevant
  250.   for files created for older version of Flows, but this will not introduce
  251.   essential problems.
  252. - ******************** MIND! **********************************************
  253.   From version 3.0 every .FLW file MUST contain the [Document] item
  254.   CONTAINING AT LEAST THE SETTING
  255.    Version = <n.nn>
  256.   If this settings is not available Flows will asume the source file to be
  257.   created for an obsolete version. Some new options will not be accepted!
  258.   For version 3.0 and future higher versionnumbers the second digit of the
  259.   minor version number will be ignored. So 3.11 will be interpret as 3.1.
  260.  
  261. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta IV (3-14, 1993)
  262. - In the functionkey bar the options Open and Run are now made inactive if
  263.   these options are inactive in the pull down menus.
  264. - File names are now read correctly from the FLOWS.INI file when any
  265.   "()\" character are appear.
  266. - Command line switches may now be preceded by a "/" as well as a "-".
  267.   Options may be merged after the first "/" or "-". Par example:
  268.    FLOWS /IHM=eps -S=confer.set /D=c:\temp\side est*.flw rel*.flw
  269.           ^^^
  270.   No following switch may be merged behind the options /M, /S, and /D,
  271.   because no distinction can be made between a file name and a switch.
  272.   For user configuration files (option /S) a distinction is made between the
  273.   stated version number and the file compatibility version number. By
  274.   checking the used settings is deduced which version of Flows will still be
  275.   able to process the file correctly. Blank lines appearing within an item
  276.   are excluded in this deduction!
  277. - An entirely new - and more efficient - lay out is implemented.
  278. - Following options are added:
  279.     FirstPage, LastPage, ObsoleteLayout, OutlineImage,
  280.     PageOverlay, UserFormH, UserFormV, TwoLines.
  281.   The "PageOverlay=" settings can (de)active page sharing for printer output
  282.   (more than 1 image per page). This will computed automatically.
  283. - Now all fields are relevant in the [Title] item. All fields will be merged.
  284.   If a field contains one of the following codes, the code will be replaced
  285.   by its value:
  286.     ... ~ (Page#) ~ ...      becomes current pagenumber of [Page=n] header;
  287.     ... ~ (PageChr) ~ ...    becomes small letter, [Page=n] give an "a"
  288.                              where n = FirstPage (from [Document] item);
  289.     ... ~ (RunPage#) ~ ...   becomes current output page number of Flows;
  290.     ... ~ () ~ ...           will be replaced by 1 space (from beta V).
  291. - Alternative lay out is now almost completely operative.
  292.  
  293. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta V (3-20, 1993)
  294. - Now synchronization symbols from the [Flows] and [Sync] items are correctly
  295.   depicted. Also corrected: imaging of action labels from [Flows] and
  296.   [Actions] items.
  297. - The selected files are now also correctly displayed after a new user
  298.   configuration is read interactively.
  299. - The setting "TwoLines=" is now interpret too. With this option can be
  300.   chosen between one or two lines draw from the FEs to the bottom.
  301. - The vertical position of the FEs is now also correct when no date and no
  302.   author's name are depicted.
  303. - In the [Title] item a field that contains just "()" is now replaced by
  304.   exactely 1 space. This is helpful to insert a space between a piece of
  305.   text and an automatic page number.
  306.  
  307. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta VI (3-21, 1993)
  308. - The selection of files fron the "Select File" window is now also possible
  309.   with the keyboard only.
  310. - The new dummy entity "(PageBreak)" is partly implemented, but still cannot
  311.   be used. This keyword must be placed in the first field of a text line
  312.   within the [Entities] item. From version 3.0 the dummy entity "(Blank)"
  313.   must be placed in the first field too (was: first or second field).
  314. - The variables to be used in the page title must be enclosed by parentheses
  315.   "()" in stead of angle brackets "<>".
  316.   Note: The English version of this text file does not mention the angle
  317.     brackets in beta IV and beta V, because only Dutch speaking people
  318.     have tested those releases.
  319.   So "<Page#>" becomes "(Page#)", and so on. Now the codes are not
  320.   case-sensitive.
  321. - The program has been made more efficient in several point. It consumes
  322.   slightly more RAM space to execute. This is neccesary for coming extensions.
  323. - The new option "AskConfirm=" has been added in FLOWS.INI. With this settings
  324.   several confirmation questions can be disabled. E.g. after depressing
  325.   <Alt-F4>, <Alt-X>, or <Ctrl-Q> to leave Flows. Also messages like
  326.   "Windows 3.x detected ... Press any key." will be removed after a shorter
  327.   delay.
  328. - Illegal characters in the action-icons field (within the [Flows] item) will
  329.   cause no errors and no whitespace anymore. Before version 3.0 the "0" was
  330.   recognized and interpret as an "O". From now the "0" is illegal.
  331. - If Windows is detected the mouse will be controlled in a slightly different
  332.   way. Now Logitech and some other (obsolete) mouse drivers function
  333.   correctly in a full screen DOS box.
  334. -                              KNOWN PROBLEM:
  335.                    Some mouse drivers operate incorrectly
  336.                            in a Windowed DOS box.
  337.  
  338. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta VI (3-23, 1993)
  339. - All data is now dynamically stored in the RAM. Flows uses the memory more
  340.   efficient, flexible, and faster.
  341. - Again mouse control has been changed. Keyboard speedup will be activated in
  342.   non-Windows evironment only.
  343. - The "(PageBreak)" code is now interpret without errors. On this moment is
  344.   has about the same effect as "(Blank)".
  345. - Line numbers used to cause a decreased left margin. Now line numbers are
  346.   placed inside the normal images outlines (the information flow arrows are
  347.   shifted to the right a few millimeters).
  348. - New [Title] codes added: "(SubPage#)" and "(SubPageChr)". These codes
  349.   return the pagenumber caused by the dummy "(PageBreak)" entities. The
  350.   first (or leftmost) page is "1" or lower case "a". If a page consists of
  351.   one subpage - no "(pagebreak)" present - the return values are: "1" and "".
  352. - Pages without FEs are now skipped without causing a printer error. A message
  353.   is displayed in the status window.
  354. - Subpage support is now complete.
  355. - New item added: "[GlobalVars]" and "[LocalVars]" to be used for dynamic
  356.   titles.
  357. - In [Title] item new codes added: "(#SubPages#)" and "(Var:...)". The latter
  358.   can be used in combination with ohter codes:
  359.     [LocalVars]
  360.      1a ~ Page~()~(RunPage#)~.
  361.      1b ~ Something else...
  362.     [Title]
  363.      This is page~()~(Var: 1(SubPageChr))
  364.   Variables names are case insensitive.
  365. - The FE references in the [Relations] item are now also interpret correctly
  366.   if the second FE reference is lower (more to the left) than the first one
  367.   on a line.
  368. - Nicknames are now case insensitive (for 3.0 source files only).
  369. - Following characters are not allowed in nicknames and variables names:
  370.   ( ) < > "  and spaces.
  371. - Nicknames in source files before version 3.0 are placed in angle brackets.
  372.   From version 3.0 only round brackets are accepted. This is now correctly
  373.   detected and processed.
  374. - One global variable is always defined: "(Var: FLOWS)". This variable returns
  375.   the program version, in this case: "Flows V3.0ß". Variable names cannot be
  376.   overwritten.
  377. - The "Legend=" option has been extended for FLOWS.INI, user *.SET files,
  378.   [Document] items, and [Page=...] items. Now the "Legend=" option accepts
  379.   up to two values, separated by a comma. The values may be exchanged. If only
  380.   one value is present, the other will not be affected.
  381.   First set of values:  NO, LEFT, RIGHT, FULL, CENTRE.
  382.   Second set of values: FIRST, LAST, ALL.
  383.   Examples:
  384.    Legend=Right
  385.    Legend=First,Right
  386.    Legend=Full,First
  387.    Legend=All
  388.   The FIRST, LAST, and ALL values affect the subpage on which the legend will
  389.   be depicted.
  390. - The [Sync] and [Actions] items not not correctly process on pages containing
  391.   subpages.
  392. - A new options is added for FLOWS.INI, user *.SET, and [Document] items:
  393.   "ReductionMethod=". The possible values are LOOSE, NORMAL, and MAX. This
  394.   option affects the way information flow lines are depicted on pages
  395.   containing subpages. LOOSE is causes no overlapping, but consumes most
  396.   space. NORMAL may cause two lines to be depicted on the same line if they
  397.   don't share entities. If the the endpoints of two flows share a FE, the
  398.   flows will be placed on two subsequent lines. This may cause overlapping
  399.   labels or action icons. The MAX method tries to save as much space as
  400.   possible.
  401.   Note: in this beta release the MAX method results in the same image as
  402.   the NORMAL method. The MAX and NORMAL methods will get better later on.
  403. - In stead of the item header [Flows] now the header [InfoFlows] is required.
  404.  
  405. ****** V3.0 for DOS - beta VII (3-30, 1993)
  406. - A new option has been added in FLOWS.INI: "MemMonitor=". This option is
  407.   used to enable/disable a small window containing heap information.
  408.   Possible values are: "no" "yes", and "On top".
  409. - When creating printer output, now a message will come up if the output file
  410.   already exists. Possible choices are: Abort, New name, Overwrite, Append.
  411. - Now "(pagebreak)" is correctly processed, including swapping between
  412.   portrait and landscape orientation for single pages (eventually containing
  413.   multiple subpages).
  414. - Now sync symbols are imaged correctly (beta VI didn't depict them at all).

  473. - File existance check is now executed for all output files. For single page
  474.   output, a new page number may be entered.
  475. - On error output pages or files may be skipped now.
  476. - "Import" menu entry is now available. Select the import source type before
  477.   selecting the file(s).
  478. - In new lay out now instance letter are depicted again. In obsolete lay out
  479.   and V3.0 compatible files, instance letters are depicted even if no FE name
  480.   has been specified.
  481. - Unneccessary screen refreshes are removed.
  482. - In the [Entities] item the "level" field may now contain two values:
  483.     example:  ... ~ level,toplvl ~ ...
  484.     syntax:   ... ~ [<level> [,<toplvl>]] ~ ...
  485.   The first value is about still the same as before, but illegal input values
  486.   are interpret differently (as if no value is present).
  487.   The second value can be used to create large FEs: FEs that are higher than
  488.   just one level. In this case the second level identifies the top of the FE.
  489.   Large FEs cannot have elliptical shapes.
  490. - For V3.0 files an illegal FE level number will be interpret as follows:
  491.   if the values is within the range 1..4 the local (page only) "Levels="
  492.   settings will be adjusted. So the "Levels=" option has a reduced
  493.   functionality.
  494.   Other values are converted to 1 (for interjacent FEs) or the true "Levels="
  495.   values (for the leftmost and rightmost FE).
  496.   Mind this: For older source files illegal values are always converted to
  497.   1 (if input is zero) or "Levels=" values (others).
  498. - If no level value is present, Flows will interpret this as an error case
  499.   for V3.0 files. Thus new source files are interpret slightly different.
  500. - The maximum number if instances for V3.0 compatible files is increased to
  501.   5 for all FEs on levels below the "Levels=" value. So the uppermost FEs can
  502.   still have up to 3 instances, while others can have up to 5.
  503. - A new field is appended in the [Entities] item: the virtual instances
  504.   specification field. If present, this field contains the instance letters
  505.   to be used inside the current page for compilation AND for imaging.
  506.   Small example:

  509.   In this case two instances are depicted: instance "a" and "c". The number
  510.   of letters specified must match the number of instances given in the first

  519.   So the plus and minus symbols contain dynamic information, which - of
  520.   course - cannot be depicted on a (static) page. The "+" and "-" signs are
  521.   used by the stage-2 demonstrator/simulator software.
