  17. Unconsciousness is a sign of a serious illness or injury.
  18.  
  19. Symptoms:  drowsy and disoriented, incoherent when roused, unresponsive and
  20. unaware of surroundings.
  21.  
  22. As with all serious injuries:

  24.      Check and maintain an open airway, restore breathing and circulation
  25.  
  26. If you know the cause, give first aid for the cause.
  27.

  29. Immediate Treatment:
  30.  
  31.   1. Maintain an open airway
  32.  
  33.   2. Loosen tight clothing
  34.  
  35.   3. Keep the victim lying down
  36.  
  37.   4. If the cause is unknown, do not move the victim
  38.  
  39.   5. If the cause is known, and a head, neck or back injury is not suspected,
  40. place the victim on his side to prevent choking.

  42.   6. Check for possible cause of unconsciousness & keep the victim warm
  43.  
  44.   7. If not fully recovered in 5 minutes, call for help.
