  38.      Trimethobenzamide should be stored at room temperature in a tightly
  39. closed container.

  41. USES
  42.  
  43.      This drug is used to control nausea and vomiting.  It is thought to act
  44. directly on the vomiting center in the brain.
  45.  
  46. TREATMENT
  47.  
  48.      Trimethobenzamide capsules can be taken with a full glass of water.
  49.      The suppository form of this medication should be inserted into the
  50. rectum (if the suppository is too soft to insert, run it under cold water or
  51. put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes).  To insert it, remove the foil
  52. wrapper, moisten the suppository with a little water, and then lie down on
  53. your left side with your right knee bent.  Push the suppository into your
  54. rectum with your finger.  Remain lying down for a few minutes.  Try to avoid
  55. having a bowel movement for an hour or longer after inserting the suppository
  56. in order to allow time for the drug to be absorbed.
  57.      If you miss a dose of this medication, take the missed dose as soon as
  58. possible, unless it is almost time for the next dose.  In that case, do not
  59. take the missed dose at all; return to your regular dosing schedule.  Do not
  60. double the dose.

  62. SIDE EFFECTS
  63.  
  64.      Minor.
  65.  
  66.      Diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, or muscle cramps.  These side
  67. effects should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication.
  68.      If you feel dizzy or light-headed, sit or lie down for a while; get up
  69. slowly from a sitting or reclining position, and be careful on stairs.

  71.      Major.
  72.  
  73.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  74. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  75. back pain, blurred vision, convulsions, depression, disorientation, mouth
  76. sores, rash, tremors, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual hand or face
  77. movements, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

  79. INTERACTIONS
  80.  
  81.      Concurrent use of trimethobenzamide with central nervous system
  82. depressants (drugs that slow the activity of the brain and spinal cord), such
  83. as alcohol, antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepine tranquilizers, muscle
  84. relaxants, narcotics, pain medications, phenothiazine tranquilizers, and
  85. sleeping medications, or with tricyclic antidepressants can cause extreme
  86. drowsiness.
  87.      BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about any medications you are currently
  88. taking, especially those listed above.

  90. WARNINGS
  91.  
  92.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  93. any medications, especially to trimethobenzamide (or to benzocaine or other
  94. local anesthetics if you are using the suppository form).
  95.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you now have or if you have ever had
  96. acute fever, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, intestinal infection, or
  97. viral infections.
  98.      * If this drug makes you dizzy or drowsy, do not take part in any
  99. activity that requires alertness, such as driving a car or operating
  100. potentially dangerous machinery.
  101.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  Safe use in pregnancy
  102. has not been established.  Extensive studies in pregnant women have not been
  103. conducted.  Also, tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding an infant.  It is
  104. not known whether trimethobenzamide passes into breast milk.
