A Resource About Emergency Care
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Accidental injury is the number one killer of Americans under the age of
37, and the fourth ranked cause of death over all, claiming more than 100,000
lives each year. Many of these deaths could be prevented if more people knew
how to recognize an emergency and act correctly to gain the help of America's
vast emergency medical services system. Yet a recent survey revealed that
many people are confused about what steps to take first in an emergency, and
almost half of those questioned had difficulty in identifying the national
9-1-1 emergency hotline number. To respond to this need for education, the
American College of Emergency Physicians and the Upjohn Company have prepared
a new consumer information brochure that contains the information you need to
know when a medical emergency strikes. It is called "What You Should Know
About Emergency Care", and you can obtain your free copy by sending a stamped
self-addressed business size envelope to "Emergency Care", Dept. AB, 307 West
36th Street, New York, NY 10018. It provides you with the questions you
should know the answers to when requesting emergency medical help. And that
can make the difference in getting the right help promptly and in time to
successfully help the victim.
