A Resource about Preventing Stroke
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stroke is the leading cause of disability among adults. It is the third
leading cause of death. It is the primary diagnosis for patients discharged
from hospitals directly to nursing homes. Despite stroke's prevalence and the
misery it can cause, most people are surprisingly unaware of its nature,
causes, and warning signs. A recent Gallup survey showed that 97 percent of
adults over 50 do not know a single warning sign of stroke. Yet when warning
signs are recognized, and the proper actions taken, it is possible to reduce
the risk and avoid the tragedy. A new brochure entitled "Preventing Stroke
in Later Years" is now available from the National Stroke Association, and it
contains much of the information you need to know now. It could, quite
literally, save your life. Send a your request for this free brochure, along
with a stamped self addressed business size envelope, to "Preventing Stroke",
Dept. AB, National Stroke Association, 8480 East Orchard Rd. Suite 1000,
Englewood, CO 80111.
You can also obtain more information about stroke or order the booklet by
calling NSA's toll free number 1-800-STROKES (787-6537). And tell them Dr.
Bruckheim sent you. Then read and learn the "Warning Signs of Stroke".
Though I hope you will never need them, it is most important that you
recognize them.
