A Resource About Arthritic Fatigue
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably the most common complaint heard in a Family Doctor's office is
one of fatigue. The reason is easy to understand. Fatigue results from so
many causes, and can be so debilitating and depressing, that it is often the
last straw that motivates the patient to seek medical care. Emotional stress,
overwork, poor eating habits, lack of proper exercise, anemia, insomnia,
infections, and depression can all be a cause of the extreme tiredness we call
fatigue. However, an article in the November-December issue of Arthritis
Today, the national consumer magazine of the Arthritis Foundations, points out
that extreme fatigue can accompany any form of arthritis, and is commonly
found in types that involve inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis among
others. When arthritis "flare" causes fatigue to reach new limits, there are
a variety of strategies that people with arthritis can use to combat it. They
are contained in a free brochure "Coping With Fatigue" that you can obtain by
calling the Arthritis Foundation's toll free Information Line 1-800-283-7800,
which operates Monday-Friday from 9 AM-7 PM Eastern Time. You may also mail
your requests to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 19000, Atlanta, GA 30326.
Please be sure to include your name and address with your request.
