  17.      The statistics may be frightening, for one out of every eleven women will
  18. develop breast cancer during her lifetime, but early detection is the key to
  19. successful treatment.  October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
  20. expanding the formally one week of activities to an entire month.  Under the
  21. umbrella of the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, the events
  22. are cosponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, as well as The
  23. American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology, National Cancer Care
  24. Foundation, National Cancer Institute, Susan G. Komen Foundation for the
  25. Advancement of Breast Cancer Research, and the ICI Pharmaceuticals Group,
  26. which is providing funds for this effort.  You would be wise to request the
  27. newly revised booklet "Breast Cancer; Your Best Protection. . . Early
  28. Detection" by sending a stamped, self addressed business envelope to the
  29. National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, P.O. Box 4333, Grand Central
  30. Station, New York, NY 10063.  You may also ask the Alliance to send you their
  31. other materials developed to help inform you about Breast Cancer, and help you
  32. avoid its more serious complications.
