| M.Y.O.B. 8.0 M.Y.O.B. was one of the first accounting packages to implement "point & click" with its user-friendly "Command Centre". With Version 8, the interface has been given an overhaul and although in substance nothing much has changed, the look and feel of the program is better. There are a number of minor enhancements in this new version and, among them, many users will be happy to see multiple copy printing and more context-sensitive help. Probably the singularly most impressive thing about M.Y.O.B. is the support structure that backs it up. Its Australian developer, Datatech Software, has a strong commitment to providing quality information and support to its users and this is a real plus if you are a small business with limited resources. In general, the enhancements in M.Y.O.B. 8.0 are well worth a look whether you're considering upgrading from version 7.0 or you're in the market for a new accounting package. The software is chock full of options and will suit a range of businesses which have differing needs and which operate at different levels of complexity in their finances.

| ACT! 4.0 Overall, ACT! is complex enough to support most contact management needs and yet it's easy to learn and use. It would be an ideal package for an organisation with users who spend most of their time in the field. The fewer programs people in the field use the more likely they are to spend time doing the work they're paid to do and not calling in for software help. ACT! incorporates faxing, e-mailing and mail merge into one interface so you don't have to leave the program to complete these tasks. It allows you to attach copies of the files you e-mail or fax to the contact data so you don't have multiple places to look for the information on an individual customer. The interface is fully customisable so a business can create its own custom database, layout and reports and it can even customise the look of the program by including its own menus, toolbars, shortcut keys and macros. If you're in the market for a contact manager, ACT! is an excellent tool for helping you get on with the job.

The program is useful in that it gives you a framework within which to proceed, which is ideal for novices. However, if you're an experienced brainstormer, you might be a little disappointed with this program, because it doesn't add anything new. Nor is there any way to save or print out your work.

You can save scraps of text (up to 32Kb) both to your desktop and to a file. If you leave a Scrap open when you shut down your computer, it will appear on the desktop when you start up again.
