Bookmark Managers

There are dozens of shareware and commercial products that will help you supercharge your bookmarks. We've collected a selection and put them on this month's cover CD-ROM.

 

Amigo 2.2.3

Minimum system requirements: Win 95/NT; IE or Navigator or Opera.

An 'Internet note taker'. Amigo lets you import IE, Navigator or Opera bookmarks; add notes to URLs, lists of URLs and e-mail; and manage bookmarks via a tree-like structure.

BookLock 1.3

Minimum system requirements: Win 95.

BookLock lets you create a standalone, portable collection of bookmarks. It creates a setup disk which you can take to any Windows 95 system. It also lets you print bookmarks and create an HTML page containing a list of your bookmarks.

 

Bookmark Converter 2.6

Minimum system requirements: Win 95/NT; IE and Navigator.

Converts Navigator Bookmarks into IE Favorites and vice versa. Allows remote conversion for multiple users on networks, and command-line conversion.

 

Bookmark Magician 1.0a

Minimum system requirements: Win 95/NT; Visual Basic Runtime 4.0; IE and Navigator.

Bookmark Magician consolidates your IE Favorites and Navigator Bookmarks. You can use the program as a browser launchpad. It tucks itself into the Taskbar Tray for easy access. This program requires the Visual Basic 4.0 Runtime module, which we've also included on the CD-ROM in our Patches section.

 

Columbine Bookmark Merge 3.3

Columbine Bookmark Merge lets you merge, edit, sort, print and convert bookmarks from Netscape, IE, Mosaic and Opera. It includes a URL grabber, URL launching, and bookmark publishing on the Internet.

Minimum system requirements: Win 95; IE 3.x or Navigator 2.x.

Lets you organise bookmarks or favourites. You can search through your bookmarks; drag links from a page and drop them into your bookmark pool; sort bookmarks; and print a list of bookmarks.

 

InstantFavorites 3.0

Minimum system requirements: Win 95/NT; IE 4.

InstantFavorites is an IE 4.x add-on. It provides an alternative view of your Favorites which is noticeably faster than the IE version. You can search for Favorites by keyword, drag-and-drop links to the program, and convert bookmarks to Favorites.

 

Linkman 2.55

A bookmark manager that lets you load, save and sort links; convert them from Bookmarks to Favorites; and generate Web pages containing collections of links. A URL database of 2500 links is included, and you can place the program in the Taskbar Tray for easy access.

Link Sweeper 1.0

Clean up your bookmarks with Link Sweeper. It tests each bookmark and deletes, moves or updates every link that doesn't work or has moved. Use it to sort your bookmarks and synchronise Favorites and Bookmarks as well.

 

LinkSync 1.1

LinkSync merges IE Favorites and Netscape Bookmarks, eliminating duplicates in the process. Any changes (rename, delete, add, move) you make to your Bookmarks will be reflected in your Favorites and vice versa.

Net Diary tracks every site you've visited, and lets you search its list of sites.

 

PowerMarks 2.04

PowerMarks dumps the folder hierarchy system and uses a simple interface to let you create, browse and find collections of bookmarks. You can add notes and descriptions to your bookmarks; check whether bookmarks are still valid; add keywords to let you retrieve sites easily; and import and export bookmarks between browsers and other formats.

 

VisualBookMark 1.1.1

A bookmark manager and navigation tool that allows you to import Bookmarks and Favorites, storing the links as captured images of the Web pages. The links are displayed as thumbnail images which can be organised into folders. Multi-user support is enhanced with personal IDs and passwords to keep bookmark files separate.

 

URL Manager 1.6 (16-bit)

Minimum system requirements: Win 3.x.

Use URL Manager to categorise your favourites, importing them from HTML, comma-delimited and other documents. Includes a clipboard monitor for quick copy and paste of bookmarks.

 

URLMenu 2.0

Minimum system requirements: Win 95; IE 3.x or Navigator 3.x.

URLMenu provides access to your bookmarks via an icon in the Taskbar tray. You can use it to merge bookmarks and favourites, and store links from any text-based application.
