Weapon rundown
The weapons in DOOM 3 are pretty much identical to those of the
original game. Here's a quick rundown on your available firepower.
Fists. On the lower
difficulty levels, ammo is moderately easy to find, although
there may be occasions where you find yourself caught in a tight
spot. In these instances, you may like to try and duke it out
with some of the lesser demons. I wouldn't recommend using your
mitts for tackling the game's tougher adversaries unless you've
just dosed yourself with the Berserk power-up. |
 |
Torch. Most of the
levels in DOOM 3 are pitch black, so your torch is a vital tool.
While you can't fire a weapon and operate the torch simultaneously
(unless you've downloaded the recent mod, which facilitates
this), you can use it as a bludgeoning weapon. Be forewarned:
it can be a little off-putting gazing into your opponent's eight
sets of eyes as you attempt to beat it to death with a small
flashlight. |
 |
Pistol. Not too bad
for picking off weaker opponents, although you'll want to trade
up as soon as you can. |
 |
Shotgun. This is DOOM
3's meat and potatoes weapon, perfect for dealing out a storm
of pain at close range. It's next to useless on long-range targets. |
 |
Submachine gun. Quite
a handy weapon, although it chews through ammo fairly quickly.
Make sure you fire it in short, controlled bursts. |
 |
Chain gun. This puppy
will annihilate malingering groups of demons in no time at all,
although it literally rips through ammo and pronounced recoil
can make it a tad hard to aim with any degree of accuracy. |
 |
Grenades.
These will dispatch foes very effectively. Just make sure you're
not too close when they blow. |
 |
Plasma rifle. Fires
beams of energy and deals moderate damage. Great for negating
Revenant rocket attacks, but ammo isn't that plentiful. |
 |
Rocket launcher. My favourite weapon in the entire game! Just watch out for splash damage. |
 |
BFG 9000. The old
'Big Frigging Gun' 9000 fires a ball of energy that homes in
on multiple targets, and then detonates with localised fission
explosions. Just don't hold the trigger too long or you'll blow
yourself up. Ammo for this baby is more valuable than precious
stones! |
 |
Chainsaw. Quite potent,
but dangerous to use. Great for when you're feeling especially
vindictive! |
 |
Soul cube. You come across this alien artefact late in the game. Powered by the souls of vanquished demons, it can also restore the user's health. This weapon is vital for taking out the endgame boss creatures. |
