Plugins
Where is this Option? PLUGINS => JAVA/BANNERS
Splash! uses plugins to enhance your page. Plugins can utilise complex internet languages such as Java and Java Script, along with many others. Using wizards, Splash! has a unique way of freeing the user from learning these languages. You can control, step-by-step, each available option for each plugin. This control gives you the ability to choose your own parameters and options.
USE PLUGIN
Where is this Option? PLUGINS => JAVA => USE
By selecting use you will be presented with the available plugins on your system. If you have packages of plugins you will be presented with a menu of the available packages. PLUGINS DETAILS
After selecting the plugin you wish to place on your page you will be presented with a window which is called the plugin wizard. The initial information provides you with information about the plugin and requires you to enter no data. The information will be provided in the following order from top to bottom.
Applet Name
The name the applet is distributed under.
Description
A short summary of what the applet does.
Applet Author
Often the plugin author is a 'third party', that is, the author may be a developer from outside the company.
Applet Author E-mail Address
If you wish to contact the developer of the plugin you should address e-mail to this address. Please send e-mail to this person relating to the product only, not how the product interacts with the Splash! environment. If you would like to ask a technical question about the interaction of the plugin, or if you are having problems please contact customer support or the person listed as the prepairer of the plugin.
Internet Site
The authors internet site is listed for two reasons. Firstly, it is considered netiquitte (polite) to credit the author of any plugin you use by providing a link to their website on your page. Often by registering the author will forego this requirement. If you wish to visit the authors' homepage, register the plugin or get technical support you can do so by placing this URL (address) into the appropriate field in your browser.
Copyright Information
This states who owns the copyright of the plugin. It is usually, but not necessarily, the same as the author. Please respect the copyright and give credit to the copyright holder where credit is due. It is ordinarily enough to provide a link to the creators website. If other action is required to live up to copyright it will be stated.
Who Prepaired Plugin
Each plugin has been 'prepared' for Splash! This means that someone has provided a file which allows the plugin to be used in the Splash! environment. You do not need to know how to prepare such files yourself however if you have problems with a plugin that is not prepared by Splash! staff you should contact the person listed.
Resizeable?
Almost all objects in Splash! can be resized. Many plugins however have dimensions that must remain fixed for them to function properly.
Number of Parameters Required
Almost all plugins will require some input from you which will determine the exact look and content of the plugin. If information is required you will be asked to input it one question at a time until enough information has been supplied. The number of parameters required lets you know how many questions you will be required to answer.
