Images

Where is this Option? INSERT => IMAGE
Placing images into Splash! is simple. They can be easily dropped with default information and then resized appropriately. When placing an image keep in mind that it shouldn't be too large as this will greatly increase the time it takes for visitors to download your page.

FILENAME

This is the name of the image to be loaded into Splash!. If you are unsure of the exact location of the graphic on your computer select the Browse button and you will be presented with the option to search your computer with a windows dialog box. The preview window will allow you to view the image before you decide to place it. If you have selected the wrong image select the Browse option again and choose a new image. It will replace your original selection.

ALTERNATE TEXT

Alternate text is the text that appears if graphics are not supported or when the user runs their mouse pointer over the image object. Some browsers don't support images (like people who use unix), or they have graphics switched off. To make it easier for these people the alternative text should describe the image, or the action that will occur if the image is designated as a link. If you don't put anything in the Alternate Text field it will default to the image name, for example it will display "Image of menu.gif".

IMAGE SIZE

All images have a specified size. This option allows the user to independently adjust the width and height of the image. Making the image smaller at this point will not reduce the time the image takes to appear to a visitor. This is because the original image is loaded into memory and then resized by the browser. If you are significantly reducing the size of an image it is more efficient to first reduce the image using a graphics package, that way the original graphic is closer to the size that you want it to be displayed and will appear much faster.

RESTORE SIZE

In the event that an image becomes distorted due to the manipulation of height and width, this option will restore the image back to its original height & width.

IMAGE PADDING

Image padding is used to place a space around an image object. This is best used when wrapping text around an image because it prevents the text from appearing too close. This option is used to make pages neater and easier to read.

IMAGE MAPPING

Where is this Option? 'RIGHT CLICK ON IMAGE OBJECT' => LINK => IMAGE MAPPING
Image Mapping allows the user to designate specific regions of an image object as links. There is practically no limit to the different links an image object can have designated to it. Keep in mind that the image should not be inordinately large due to the time it would take a visitor to view. Regions may overlap, but if the overlapping regions have different link details the results may be unpredictable. The following image mapping tools are used:-

    Rectangle

Rectangle will allow you to designate a rectangular portion of your image. The region within the rectangle will become eligible as a link. To set the link, right click within the region and the link window will appear. Select an option, do you want to link a page within your current project, a page elsewhere on the internet, e-mail someone or link to a local file for download.

    Circle

Circle will allow you to designate a circular portion of your image. To set the link, right click within the region and the link window will appear. Select an option, do you want to link a page within your current project, a page elsewhere on the internet, e-mail someone or link to a local file for download?

    Polygon

Polygon will allow you to designate an abstract area of your image. This is used by defining a group of straight lines, used to enclose the area. To set the link, right click within the region and the link window will appear. Select an option, do you want to link a page within your current project, a page elsewhere on the internet, e-mail someone or link to a local file for download.
