Pete Martin, a journalist who did a series of stories on Marilyn for a magazine (The Saturday Evening Post, I think), apparently patched-together various conversations he had with Marilyn and wove them into an interesting dinnertime scenario -- think of it as a sort of My Dinner with Andre featuring MM.

ISBN: ?
Details: Hardback. 110 pages.
Contains: 20 photos (b&w).

This is the British edition of Will Acting Spoil Marilyn Monroe?. The text is identical to that in the American edition, but the photographs are completely different: there are fewer, and they include some photographs by Baron that are not in the original. Exceedingly hard to find.

Mellen
Marilyn Monroe: The Pictorial Treasury of Film Stars by Joan Mellen
Published by Galahad Books. 1973. USA.

ISBN: 0-88365-165-3.
Details: Hardback. 145 pages.
Contains: Over 80 pages of photos (b&w). Bibliography. Filmography. Index.

Joan Mellen's book relies heavily on Photoplay articles for source material, which I consider to be a plus simply because most of us do not have access to the original magazines, and some of those articles contain good information that has not necessarily made its way into the Monroe canon. The accompanying photos are almost exclusively stills from the movies.

Further Reading

Other books that, though listed under different categories (or not available to me at this time), address the topic of Marilyn Monroe's movies and acting talent in some significant way:

Marilyn: The Last Take
by Peter Harry Brown & Patti Barham
This biography contains a wealth of information about Marilyn's last, aborted movie, Something's Got to Give.

Marilyn and Me
by Susan Strasberg
Susan Strasberg provides a wealth of information about Marilyn's relationship with Paula and Lee Strasberg, her last acting coaches (and Susan's parents).
