She Acts Like A Woman Should
This section is comprised of books that are centered mainly around analyses of Marilyn Monroe's films and acting.

Buskin
The Films of Marilyn Monroe by Richard Buskin
Publication: Publications International, Ltd. 1992. USA.

ISBN: 1-56173-277-X.
Details: Hardback. 96 pages.
Contains: All pages have photos (color, b&w).

Though necessarily similar to Conway & Ricci's The Complete Films of Marilyn Monroe, Buskin's book certainly one-ups them with its good selection of photos - some quite rare (one shot is of Marilyn in a black wig, in a costume-test for Let's Make Love), printed on nice glossy stock. Also included are reproductions of lobby cards and posters from some of the movies, as well as shots taken during the filming of some of the them. For each movie, Buskin includes a cast list, credits, a list of songs (if any), a synopsis of the plot, and behind-the-scenes information.

Clark
The Prince, the Showgirl, and Me by Colin Clark
Published by St. Martin's Press. 1996. USA.

ISBN: 0-312-14395-8.
Details: Hardback. 213 pages.
Contains: 8 pages of photos (b&w). Index. Photo credits.

An on-the-set diary by one of the crew members working on The Prince and the Showgirl. This amusing and not too exploitive memoir by Clark, who worked as a gofer on the film, details all the conflicts, misunderstandings, and exasperation that became part-and-parcel of the filming of what should have been a "light soufflé." It's an amusing book - very British, of course, but sobering, too, given how obvious Marilyn's emotional troubles are in this account. My only reservation is that Clark's anecdotes somehow manage to exactly match all of Olivier's anecdotes about the movie. That bit about Paula Strasberg buttering-up Marilyn with praises of her being as "big as Jesus"? Well, Clark just happened to have been there for that (so he says). A little unlikely, but the book is still very much worth reading.

Clark
The Prince, the Showgirl, and Me: The Colin Clark Diaries by Colin Clark
Published by Harper Collins. 1995. UK.

ISBN: 0-00-255642-1.
Details: Hardback. 213 pages.
Contains: 8 pages of photos (b&w). Index. Photo credits.

Different cover and title, but otherwise the same as the St. Martin's Press edition.

Conway
The Films of Marilyn Monroe by Michael Conway & Mark Ricci
Published by Bonanza Books / Citadel. 1964. USA.

ISBN: ?
Details: Hardback. 160 pages.
Contains: Photos on all pages (b&w).

I believe that this was the first book to be devoted solely to cataloguing Marilyn Monroe's films (though I do not know if this particular edition was the first one). For each of Marilyn's movies, they list the cast credits, credits, and a synopsis of the plot. For most of the films, they also include a selection of excerpts from contemporary reviews. Because the accompanying black-and-white photos are stills from the movies, they are necessarily run-of-the-mill. No, I do not know why they chose such a terrible photo for the cover.

Conway
The Films of Marilyn Monroe by Michael Conway & Mark Ricci
Published by Citadel Press. 1973. USA.

ISBN: 0-8065-0145-6.
Details: Softback. 160 pages.
Contains: Photos on all pages (b&w).

This particular copy of the oversize-paperback edition of the original hardback is from the seventh printing - earlier printings were undoubtedly from different years.

Further Reading

Other books that, though listed under different categories (or not available to me at this time), address the topic of Marilyn Monroe's movies and acting talent in some significant way:

Marilyn: The Last Take
by Peter Harry Brown & Patti Barham
This biography contains a wealth of information about Marilyn's last, aborted movie, Something's Got to Give.

Marilyn and Me
by Susan Strasberg
Susan Strasberg provides a wealth of information about Marilyn's relationship with Paula and Lee Strasberg, her last acting coaches (and Susan's parents).
