Through innovation and imagination, Magellan has made satellite-based navigation and communications possible for people everywhere. We've made amazing technologies amazingly simple to use, and incredibly affordable.
Since putting the power of the Global Positioning System in the palm of people's hands with the world's first commercial hand-held GPS receiver, Magellan has guided mountaineers on a "Peace Climb" of Mt. Everest, steered Coalition Forces in Operation Desert Storm, taken Arctic explorers to the North Pole and led the way for countless expeditions and voyages. Along the way, we've sold more portable GPS receivers than anyone, putting GPS navigation within reach of every outdoor enthusiast. And we're ready to lead you to your next adventure.
Offering people the power of GPS navigation, and the assurance and convenience of global satellite communication, Magellan is bringing the benefits of space down to Earth.
"X" Marks The Spot.
Every point on Earth can be identified by a specific address. That address is shown as two sets of numbers (also known as coordinates) which represent the precise spot where a horizontal line of latitude crosses a vertical line of longitude. When a GPS receiver reports and records your position, it is showing your latitude/longitude coordinate location, or your address on Earth. This lets you save favorite fishing spots, record game sightings, mark trails, record where you left your truck, note your campsite or save the location of any place you choose.
