New Project
The following steps are provided as a basic guideline on developing project:
- Start a new project. This command is available from the main menu -> File -> New Project. This will delete everything in memory and create a new project to in which to work.
- You will be on the first "Step 1: Beat Design" page. You can give this page a name in the edit box, but this is optional.
- Left-click on the first track name box ("(Empty)"). This will bring up the open file browser. Locate a wave file (*.wav) that you wish to work with. The software includes some sound files in the \Samples folder.
- After selecting a wave file, the Wave Information Window will display information about the file. In some cases it will be unable to use the file if it has an unsupported format. Click Done when ready to proceed. (See Specifications for more information about supported formats.)
- In order to listen to the file before proceeding further, try right-clicking on the first beat button following the track name. This will bring up that beat's Properties Window. Click on the Preview button. The sound will be loaded. When the play button at the bottom of the window becomes available, you can click on it to hear the sound.
- After returning to the "Step 1: Beat Design" page, beats can be activated. There are 32 beats available following the name of the track. Left-click on the ones that you wish to use. To test your settings, right-click on the name of the track. This will bring up the track's Properties Window and the Preview button can be used to hear the entire track with all of its beats.
- The speed that is used to play each beat can be adjusted with the page's tempo setting. You may also want to view the Tempo Window for information about the current tempo.
- After adding several tracks and activating their beats, you can preview the entire page. Click on the Properties button at the top of the "Step 1: Beat Design" page. This will bring up the page's Properties Window. Click on Preview to hear how all of the tracks sound together.
- Two common warnings that you may receive are "Wave amplitude beyond 16-bit limit" or "Wave file truncated at end of page".
- At any time, you may change what page you are working on by clicking on the page scrollbar at the top of the "Step 1: Beat Design" page. All settings will remain in memory for the last page.
- As with any development software, it is a good idea to periodically save your work to the hard drive. From the main menu -> File -> Save Project As or Save Project can be used to save all pages and their tracks and beats to a project file.
- Filters can be applied to pages (treating everything as a single sound), tracks (the wave that will be used by each beat -- not the whole track), or individual beats. Filters are used by going to the Properties Window and adding the filters to the Filters Used list.
- The "Step 2: Command Design" page can be used to organize pages in the final wave file. The most common is "Use page X and repeat Y times". X and Y are specified to the right of the commands and have both edit boxes and scrollbars to change the settings. Most songs have recurring sections and this is easily done by using a page at various points throughout a song.
- Finally, the final wave file is generated from the "Step 3: Process" page. Click on the Process button to generate the final wave file. While on the Process Window, the file can be previewed by pressing the play button after processing has completed.
