Step 1: Beat Design

The "Step 1: Beat Design" page is where the main work of music development will be done. It helps to organize the various samples (sounds) that will be used as separate tracks and then to allow the user to define the beats (timing) that those samples will use within the track.

The page itself represents one of sixty-four pages that are available in a single project file. Each page represents either a unit of time in the final wave file or simply an organization of different samples that will be mixed with one or more other pages in the final wave file.

The name edit box allows the user to give the current page a name for easy reference, but this is optional.

The page scrollbar changes the current page. There are 64 pages available in a single project.

The tempo scrollbar changes the tempo for the current page. The Tempo Window provides additional information about the tempo.

The Properties button displays the Properties Window for the current page.

There are 16 tracks on each page.

Each track has a mute button.

 (track will be used)

 (track will not be used)

Each track has a name box.

Left-click on the name box to select an external wave file to use. If a wave file was previously selected, a new wave file will be selected to replace it. After selecting a wave file, the Wave Information Window will be displayed.

Right-click on the name box to display the Properties Window for that track.

Each track has 32 beat buttons.

 (beat is activated)

 (beat is not activated)

Left-click on a beat button toggle between activating and not activating the beat.

Hold shift while left-clicking on any beat for a track and all beats for that track will beat inverted. For example if all beats are deactivated, holding shift while left-clicking on a beat button will cause all beats for that track to become activated.

Right-click on a beat button to display the Properties Window for that beat.

The bottom of the screen shows the name of the current project file open. If a new project has been started and has not yet been saved, no name will be shown.
