Clouds

CLOUDS is a natural component that looks like clouds.

How Does It Work?

The Density parameter sets how dense the cloud is, or how many puffs there are in the cloud. The number of puffs changes abruptly as Density increases.

The Puff_Size parameter sets the size of the puffs in the cloud. A Puff_Size of 0% will completely eliminate the puff, leaving only the Background. This is a useful control for shaping a cloud.

Hints!

Hooking Puff_Size to a percent version of an Image will make a cloud that has the shape of the percent image. Images without any sharp edges in them work best.  Using animated image sequences to control Puff_Size works well, especially if the clouds are translated through at the same time.  This can give the effect of shaped clouds moving and churning in the air.

The bump version of CLOUDS with a negative Bump Scale makes a good choppy water surface.

Common Parameters

Input Seed

The seed for the random number generator that is used to create the texture.

Roughness

The roughness or detail level of the pattern.

Lacunarity

The relative scale of the fractal layers of clouds.

Lacunarity Lock

When enabled, locks the size of the top fractal layer while adjusting Lacunarity.

Density

The number of puffs in a given area.

Puff Size

The size of the puffs.

Brightness

The brightness level of the pattern. Higher values move the color toward Puffs.

Contrast

The contrast or sharpness between the Background and Puffs.

Strata Function

Blending control applied the the fractal layers of the pattern.

Blend Function

Blending control between Background and Puffs.

Color Component Parameters

Background

The background color value.

Puff

The puff color value.

Percent Component Parameters

Background

The background percent value.

Puff

The puff percent value.

Bump Component Parameters

Background

The background bump elevation.

Puff

The puff bump elevation.

Bump Scale

A scaling factor for the bump values.
