Tools are modal commands that determine what SWiSH does when you click and drag the mouse on the workspace. You can select a tool by clicking one of the options in the Toolbox, which is located in the top-left of the Layout Panel. You can only select one tool at a time.
After use, the selected tool will remain active until another tool is chosen. This option can be changed in Tools -> Preferences -> Editing. You can opt for the Selection tool to automatically be re-selected and double-clicking a tool will keep it active until another tool is chosen.
The grab handles and cursors that appear around an Object and when the Object is altered will depend on the tool and tool options selected.
The available tools are:

Reshape
Fill Transform
Motion Path
Line
Pencil
Bezier
Text
Ellipse / Circle
Rectangle / Square
Auto Shapes
Pan
Zoom.
