Urbanisation involves a significant shift in the distribution
of population from rural to urban locations.
The urbanisation phase of urban development is the first of 2
stages which are characterised by the overall growth of the daily
urban system. it is associated with the expansion of employment
opportunities in the city and with the expansion of employment
opportunities in the city and with increases in the effeciency
of agriculture which release workers from the land.
Urban growth and urbanisation have transformed the global pattern
of settlement over the past century. The impact however has been
far greater than one of mere location of population as towns and
cities represent and have introduced new and different forms of
social organisation, interaction and behaviour. Life in the city
has different wide range of choices and opportunities. As well
as shifting into urban places, the population is being urbanised
in a social sense. |
