This section describes the installation procedures
for Windows NT Workstation Version 3.51 or 4.0 (hereafter called Windows NT)
and its device drivers for your computer.
Most instructions are common to both Versions 3.51 and 4.0;
otherwise, the instructions
state which version they apply to.
Before you install Windows NT in your computer,
you may need to get
some updated software from IBM (or Microsoft)
as follows:
How to Get the Updated Software |

When you finish creating your personal data,
you must save it in the
"ThinkPad Utility Diskette for DOS/Personalization."
Have ready this diskette before using the

Next, you need to set up the warm swap option. You will use
the TPFDD.EXE and TPSWAP.EXE programs on the Windows NT
ThinkPad Utility Diskette.
- Type TPFDD.EXE I at the command prompt; then
press Enter.
The diskette drive in the UltraBay is assigned as the primary
diskette drive, even if it is not actually installed in the computer.
What the TPFDD.EXE does |
---|
Ordinarily, if the computer is turned on without the
internal diskette drive in the UltraBay, the computer
assigns the primary diskette drive to the
external diskette drive (which attaches to the external-diskette-drive
connector). To always assign the internal diskette drive
in the UltraBay as the primary diskette drive, you can use TPFDD.EXE.
To reset this setting, enter TPFDD.EXE E at the DOS
command prompt.
|
- Type TPSWAP.EXE E at the command prompt; then
press Enter.
The warm swap function is enabled.
To disable it, enter
TPSWAP.EXE D at the command prompt.
- Restart Windows NT to make the setting effective.
