First of all I want to notice that most of these things are ported for you either by Platon Fomichev or Asbjorn Pettersen and I please you to write him some thanx if you like this stuff. (He's also the one who is porting GNOME and things like squid.)

Platon made a GIMP/2 informaion page and a GNOME/2 page you should take a look at. Go to the Enlightenment pages to get a great WindowManager that supports gnome.

You can use E/2 with XFree86 3.3.5 but without a fixed server TTF support is missing. To add TTF support you can use XFSTT. If someone could write a working installation description for this I will put it on my pages

The BZIP2 compression

For saving you some downloadtime, I've could use extra BZIP2 compression whenever there is a profit. Simply download the BZIP2 file and put it in your path. To decompress type: "bzip2 -d file-name-here" and bzip leaves the file without .BZ2 (use -k if you want to keep the compressed file).
If you want to know more about bzip2, simply ask it for help with: "bzip2 --help".
Please notice me if you like it to get bzip2 files (they are mostly 10% smaller) or if you dislike it (too hard to handle or whatever).

base downloads - apps-downloads - download tips

I know this is no FTP server, but it DOES support REGET, so I suggest you either to use AutoWGet, AutoGET or simply WGET to download the files from here!
The first two are nearly the same, the difference I know, is that AutoGet takes the URLs from the Desktop. I like that feature, but it may be useless, if you do also have "normal$quot; URLs on you Desktop you don#t want to download.
Wget is just the command both Progs use to get their files, it's included in both packages, but you can also get it seperate and you can also use it manually.
