Charrier bags

Charles Smith

'Charrier Bags' are similar to plastic carrier bags which are at present sold in shops and stores for 5p. Ten major charities will be asked to join the scheme by lending their names and logos for the Charrier Bags. The bags would be wholesaled to the shops by the manufacturer in packs of 50 (five for each charity), and would then be retailed at 1p more than ordinary bags. This additional 1p would be paid by the shopper in the knowledge that it would be passed on to the charity whose logo the bag bears. Shoppers would also be encouraged by a poster and media campaign to ask for a Charrier Bag by name. Stores which have their name on their bag at present would have it included on the Charrier Bags they order.

The scheme would be operated by the bag manufacturer who would divide the money raised equally between the ten charities selected. The selection of the charities would be carried out by the bag manufacturer and the Charrier Bag designers Smith and Strom. Shoppers would not be able to select specific Charrier Bags but would have to take the first one offered.
