Daytime car lights for safety

Adapted extract from a Time magazine ad by Volvo, monitored for the Institute by Roger Knights.

The use of headlights in broad daylight may seem odd. But the fact is, automobiles equipped with daytime running lights are, on average, three times more visible than those not so equipped - which might explain, for instance, why Sweden reports an eleven per cent decrease in accidents since daytime running lights were required in 1977. Such lights are standard on 1995 Volvos.
