A social inventions story for children

It struck me during the Apollo Moon Missions that many of the engineers involved mentioned reading Jules Verne stories as children. If Science Fiction stories can inspire staggering technological feats such as this, maybe imaginative adventures about social challenges could inspire others to instigate comparable social projects.
