Manchester's first Forest Garden

From Permaculture magazine (Winter '92; subs £8 from Permanent Publications, Hydeen House, Little Hyden Lane, Clanfield, Hampshire PO8 ORU, tel 0705 596500; fax 0705 595834).

Manchester's first Forest Garden is planned to start during '93. Events include pond creation, a design workshop, a no-dig workshop, path-making, practical Forest Gardening and tree planting. A living wall will also be created, made of pallets stuffed with compost, and used as a base for climbing or dangling plants. The wall provides a vertical growing space, sun-trap, privacy barrier and helps prevent the spread of weeds from one area to another.
