How to schedule data transfer
By default ORS requests trending data from Observer every hour to update its reports and every 20 seconds for NetLive reports. You can choose to change the schedule or leave it as is. You cannot change how frequently NetLive data is requested. It is either on or off.
Note: Use care before choosing to use the Reset Last Transferred Time button. This option tells ORS to forget when it last received updated data from Observer. The next time ORS requests trending data from Observer, Observer will send all trending data requested by ORS. This can be a significant amount of data and is defined on Schedules > Data Transfer > Data Transfer Settings (choose the Edit button to make changes if necessary).
1.
Click the Schedules tab, then click the Data Transfer tab.
2.
Make any changes to the schedule by clicking the Edit button. These settings affect how much data is transferred and when it is transferred.
3.
The Data Transfer Setting section shows what trending information is enabled. By default everything is enabled. To disable something, choose theEdit button.
4.
Tip! If you want to limit the data in reports to just typical business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00-18:00), then you can do this in one of two ways. On the ORSweb page, change the reporting time to match that of your needs. Or in Observer change the network trending to only capture during the time frame that you want. This method reduces the amount of data collected and transferred, but you will not have any data nor reports outside of that time frame.
The Data Storage controls how much data ORS requests from Observer when filling gaps in its local copy of trending data. When ORS first connects to an analyzer that has been running Network Trending, it requests all available trending data up to this limit. This option also comes into play when there has been a disruption in ORS’s access to an Observer’s trending data.
What this means is that ORS knows when the last data it received is from. ORS requests any new data from Observer that is newer than what ORS has. This could be a small amount of trending data or a significant amount if you are just setting up ORS and have been running network trending in Observer for a long time.
If ORS has been requesting data regularly, the transfers happen quickly.
