How to create a user

To control user permissions such as viewing of reports, user accounts must first be created.

A user account is used by ORS to get its data from a data source. This can be the same user account or a different account for each data source. Ultimately, the user must exist within Observer (or Observer Infrastructure) on the remote system.

To create a user:

Note: By default there is an Administrator account. The Administrator account does not have a password. You should assign the account a password.

1.	Click the Security tab.

2.	Click the New or Edit User Permissions button.

3.	Provide a user name. The user name cannot contain a space or any of these characters: \?/:*”<>|+&;@=$,#%’{}[]‘

4.	Type the user’s e-mail address. Any reports sent by e-mail are sent to this address.

5.	Have the user enter and confirm their password. The password limit is 16 characters.

6.	In the description field, type the user’s real name, if desired.

7.	Select which access permissions the user should have. The access permissions has two sections. The top portion is security for the local Observer and the bottom portion is for ORS.
