From: 3/15/98 To: 3/20/98 URL: http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/earthday.html Info: All schools are invited to participate in the fifth annual Earth Day Groceries Project on the Internet! This is a free, no registration required, activity to increase environmental awareness and build a positive school/community relationship. http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/earthday.html Here's a brief description: schools obtain paper grocery bags from a local grocer, students decorate the bags with environmental messages, and schools return the bags to the grocery store before Earth Day. Then, on Earth Day (April 22), the stores distribute the bags to shoppers (filled with groceries). The last step is for schools to send in a brief email report to record their school's participation. All reports are listed on the project website. Last year 314 schools reported in, recording the decorating and distribution of over 120,000 Earth Day Grocery Bags! Please visit the website at http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/earthday.html for complete information, including a (new this year) Project Starter Kit. All reports from the first four years of the project are archived at the site, as well as pictures and links to other school websites about the project. Feel free to write to Mark Ahlness at mahlness@cks.ssd.k12.wa.us for the "Frequently Asked Questions" (also available at the website). Hope you and your school can join in! Happy Earth Day, 1998!!
