Catch a Shooting Star ![](/file/19539/K_CD_8_98.iso/kscience/kidsci~1.com/library/weekly/lei02.gif)
Dateline: 08/09/97
This week you will have an opportunity to catch
a shooting star. For about three weeks each year the Perseids
appear, peaking on August 12. This meteor stream is associated
with Comet Swift-Tuttle which passed close to the sun in 1992.
What you will see are believed to be dust particles released from
the comet.
