George Washington Carver - Agricultural chemist George Washington Carver is well known for his work with the peanut. His studies of that legume related to crop rotation.
Bernard A. Harris, Jr., (M.D.) - The first African American to walk in space.
Lewis Latimer - Lewis Latimer patented the Maxim Lamp.
Mae C. Jemison - NASA astronaut.
Dr. Charles R. Drew - Charles R. Drew, an American physician, was noted for his research
on blood plasma and was the originator of blood banks.
Annie Easley - Computer scientist.
Dr. L. D. Britt - Professor of Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, is the only African-American in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be appointed Professor of Surgery.
