Determine Readiness
Contact the manufacturer of your PC for specific information about its hardware readiness. Most manufacturers have detailed information on their Web sites for consumers to learn about the status of their computer's clock (RTC) and BIOS.

Listed below are handy links to the Web sites of several major computer manufacturers:

Compaq Computer Corp.
Dell Computer Corp.
Micron
Gateway 2000, Inc.
Hewlett-Packard Company
Intel Corporation
IBM (International Business Machines)
Toshiba
Packard Bell

The PC Y2000 Alliance, which includes many leading PC manufacturers and BIOS suppliers, has made the hardware portion of that process simpler. With broad cooperation, the Alliance has defined hardware compliance, and provided help to users via the new web site. This web portal provides the information, assessment, and remediation tools needed to achieve Year 2000 hardware readiness.

Choose Strategy/Implement
If your PC hardware is not year 2000 ready, you may be given multiple options. Options may include choosing to do nothing, to update the BIOS with a special software program, or to manually reset your system clock after the New Year.
