3. The U.S. Supreme Court
ruling in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka (1954)
This decision declared separation
of races in U.S. public schools to be illegal. It created many new opportunities
for African Americans. Such new opportunities had been denied due to
limited educational opportunities.
