OCR: WE WANT Y O U_ to be a Dream Factory art ist !- But first you probably want some information. And I am more than willing to provide that What is Dream Factory ? Dream Factory is a local comic company that is in the process of producing their first comic title. Dream Factory will be publishing a title by the same name which will be a compilation of short comics of aproximately 50 pages in the style that Dark Horse Presents pioneered many years ago. How will it be done ? What format do we want it in ? The black and white art will be scanned, and digitized. Because it is being scanned into a computer the paper can be of differing qualities and sizes without affecting the end result of the anthology. Use whatever you are happiest with using. And if you don't have a scanner, don't worry; We have access to a scanner via the Vancouver Film School, and Simon Fraser University, as well as friends who are willing to donate the use of their scanners. And if that should fail we have Kinko's in Kitsilano. 8) After the art is scanned it will then be touched up in photoshop (if needed) or another graphic manipulation program. Then the art will be aligned in pagemaker (a desktop publishing program) . In Pagemaker, it can be aligned with page numbers, text, copyright symbols etc. and be given a very professional looking result. From Pagemaker it will be send to a commerical printer. Sponsors, (such as the comic book stores that will be carrying the Dream Factory books) will be funding us in exchange for advertising. What's in it for me ? I get to release my stuff -- and so do you. I need an audience -- Having people tell you that your work is cool feels great. Comic Books are one of my more favourite forms of art work. I want them to be taken more seriously. And this is where I am going to start. What about copyrights ? I want everyone to have their own copyrights. I don't want dream factory to be in control of the content. I want the artists to have control. I want the individuals to get the copyrights to their characters and works. Not Dream Factory. For now, all I can offer you the poor man's copyright : where you mail a copy of your work to yourself. But it makes you feel better, simply using a "(C)" symbol with the date and name is enforcable by law. What about censorship ? I really really hate censorship. And I don't want people to be thinking about it when they make their books. But I know people will ask. Violence? Nudity? Coarse Language? I will accept any and all of the above into the pages of Dream Factory. I do have standards though. Stories that glamourize rape or anything else that's completely illegal will not see the light of day. What do we need ? We need talented artists who can work on a schedule to create their own short comics or draw for our writers. There won't be any money involved, because at first none will be made. But if there is ever a profit being made then you will get what's coming to you.
