  2.              VENTURA SOFTWARE INTRODUCES FORMBASE VERSION 1.1

  4.      NEW YORK, NY -- June 18, 1990 -- Ventura Software Inc., a Xerox
  5. company, Monday introduced FormBase 1.1, a powerful forms processor
  6. integrated with a fully relational database.  
  7.  
  8.      FormBase allows users to manage information faster, easier and less 
  9. expensively than existing forms processors or database products.  The new
  10. version has been redesigned to benefit from Microsoft's recently released
  11. Windows graphical environment version 3.0 for personal computers.

  13.      The company made the announcement at the eigth annual PC Expo, being
  14. held in New York this week at the Jacob K. Javits Center.  
  15.  
  16.      In addition to compatibility with Microsoft Windows 3.0, other key 
  17. enhancements to FormBase 1.1 include support for the development of 
  18. international versions, new powerful design tools and increased printing
  19. and sorting speed.

  21.      "What distinguishes FormBase from other forms processors is the 
  22. unique way in which the program combines forms creation with data 
  23. management and data manipulation," said Lydia Chaverin, director of 
  24. product marketing for Ventura Software.  "The user only designs forms; the
  25. program takes care of the rest by automatically setting up the underlying
  26. relational database.

  28.      "We feel that with the combination of these capabilities, FormBase
  29. sets new standards in the emerging category of forms processing software."

  31.      FormBase 1.1 supports Windows 3.0 and can offer all the advantages of
  32. the power, ease of use and extended memory support provided in that 
  33. environment.  The product will continue to support Windows 2.1 and above;
  34. it will be shipped with Single Application Environment (run time) Windows
  35. 2.11

  37.      The redesign of FormBase allows international versions to be 
  38. developed based on the popular ANSI (American National Standards 
  39. Institute) standard.  The addition of ANSI code to FormBase 1.1 provides
  40. support for the majority of characters which are unique to Europe and were
  41. not previously achievable using the OEM (original equipment manufacturer)
  42. code.  Other international enhancements include support for country-
  43. specific sort sequences and international date formats.

  45.      FormBase 1.1 also offers enhancements in database sorting and 
  46. printing speed.  Forms printing speed is up to four times faster with the
  47. popular Hewlett-Packard laser jet series printer.  FormBase 1.1 will
  48. continue to allow users to import and export data from software products
  49. such as Microsoft Excel, Lotus 1-2-3 and  dBASE III.

  51.      FormBase 1.1 has a suggested retail price of $495.  All registered 
  52. users can upgrade for $49.  Detailed upgrade information will be 
  53. distributed to users in July.

  55.      Ventura Software has a worldwide marketing strategy and will be 
  56. shipping U.S., Canadian and Australian versions of FormBase 1.1 in the 
  57. third quarter of 1990.  Versions currently in development for the United
  58. Kingdom, France and Germany will be available later this year.  Additional
  59. international versions are also planned.
