Working with the Diagram Window
Drawing and Manipulating Components
Select the Component Icon from the Toolbox or choose a
Component name from the Toolbox Menu. Use either the mouse or
keyboard.
If you want to: Do this with the mouse:
Draw new Component Click and hold down mouse button on
vacant area of page, drag Component
outline to final location and release
button.
Move Component to new Click and hold down mouse button on
location Component, drag Component outline to
new location and release button.
Add, change or view Double-click mouse button on Component.
Data Dictionary Fill in the dialog box that pops up.
information for a
Component
Make Component larger Hold down the CTRL key, click and hold
down the mouse button on the Component,
drag Component outline until new size
is reached and release button.
Make Component smaller Hold down both the SHIFT and CTRL keys,
click and hold down the mouse button on
the Component, drag Component outline
until new size is reached and release
button.
Make an exact copy of Hold down the SHIFT key, click and hold
a Component down the mouse button, drag outline of
copied Component to proper location and
release button.
Each mouse action has a keyboard equivalent. If you do not have
a mouse, or wish to use the keyboard rather than the mouse,
substitute the following keystrokes for each mouse action given
above.

Move mouse pointer to Press ARROW KEY in the desired

Drawing and Manipulating Data Flows
Select the Data Flow Icon from the Toolbox or choose Data Flow
from the Toolbox Menu. Use either the mouse or keyboard.
If you want to: Do this:
Connect two Components Click on source and then destination
with a Data Flow line Components. Line will be drawn between
the two Components. Line connects to
each Component at a default location.
Connect two Components Hold down CTRL while clicking on each
at specific locations Component as above. Line connects to
on each Component the Component at the points on its
perimeter nearest to the mouse pointer
location when the button was clicked.

Choose a single Data Choose from a list of Data Flow names
Flow for manipulation that pops up if there is more than one
from group of Data choice available.
Flows that connect any
two objects
Remove a Data Flow Click on source and then destination
line Components. Choose name of Data Flow to
be deleted from dialog box, click on
Delete. Line will be erased between the
two Components.
Split line into Hold down shift and click first on
segments so that line source and then on destination end
may be bent point. Small "+" will appear at line
midpoint. Line may be further sub-
divided by using the "+" symbol as an
end point and following the same
procedure.
Re-route line segment Click on the "+" symbol which forms end
point of a line segment. Hold down
button and drag it to a new location,
line follows new routing.
Straighten out line by Double-click on the "+" symbol which
removing segments divides the line into segments. The
segment point will be removed and the
line will follow the path marked by
remaining "+" points.
Data Dictionary Access
When the Data Dictionary is enabled, each Component and Data
Flow may have Data Dictionary information.
If you want to: Do this:
Supply Data Dictionary Fill in the Data Dictionary dialog box
information for new that pops up when the new Component or
Component or Data Flow Data Flow is added and click on the OK
button.
Defer addition of Click on the Cancel button when the
Dictionary Information Data Dictionary dialog box pops up.

Change Data Dictionary Select the Component Tool from the
information for a Toolbox and double-click on the
Component Component. The Data Dictionary dialog
box will pop up.

information for a Data Toolbox. Double-click on the Source
Flow Component and then the Destination
Component for the Data Flow. The Data
Dictionary dialog box will pop up.
Browse through the Choose the Browse command from the
Data Dictionary Dictionary menu.
