4. Command/Action Summary
In this chapter a summary of all Personal CASE operations.

Standard Windows Operations
These operations can be done to any Windows application. They
control the overall appearance of an application on a screen
and select applications from those available.
To: Do This:
Move window to new Drag title bar with mouse.
location
Change window size Drag window border with mouse.
Stop application Double-click system menu with mouse.
Turn window into icon Click minimize icon with mouse.
Zoom window up to Click maximize icon with mouse.
full-screen size
Restore window to Click restore icon or double-click on
normal size from full- title bar with mouse.
screen size
Restore icon to screen Double click application icon.
Select and activate Click mouse anywhere inside of window.
window from those Or press ALT+ESC, ALT+TAB, or
shown on screen ALT+SHIFT+TAB to move between windows.
Scrolling
Scrolling can be done with either the mouse or keyboard.

Scroll display by Click on arrow at either end of scroll

Scroll display by Click on area inside of scroll bar with
windowful mouse. Or press PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, TAB
or SHIFT+TAB.
Scroll to approximate Drag thumb inside of scroll bar with
location mouse.

Menu Commands
The name of each menu and command is listed with a brief
description of its function. If there is a keystroke equivalent
for the command, it is shown after the description, for example
"Or press ALT+F5".
The System Menu
Command Usage
Restore Restore window to size before it was
maximized or minimized. Or press ALT+F5.
Move Move window to new location. Or press
ALT+F7.
Size Change size of window. Or press ALT+F8.
Minimize Turn window into an icon. Or press
ALT+F9.
Maximize Give full screen to window. Or press
ALT+F10.
Close Stop the application. Or press ALT+F4.
About Shows information about the application.
Open Diagram Window Create another window and view another
diagram file.
Start Clipboard Start the Windows Clipboard application.
Start Control Panel Start the Windows Control Panel
application.
Start Print Spooler Start the Windows Spooler application.

The File Menu
Command Usage
New Clear workspace to start a new design.
Open Open up a design file. Or press CTRL +
O.
Save Save the current work to the file that
was last opened. Or press CTRL + S.
NOTE: this command is unavailable in the
demo version.
Save As Save the current work to a named file.
NOTE: this command is unavailable in the
demo version.
Exit Quit the program.
The Reports Menu
Command Usage
Diagram Print Data Flow Diagram. Or press CTRL +
P.
Dictionary Contents Print contents of Data Dictionary.
Process Hierarchy Print Process/Sub-process hierarchy.
Process Usage Print usage of all Processes with input
and output Data Flows for each.
Data Flow Usage Print usage of all Data Flows with
producer and consumer Processes,
Externals or Data Stores for each.
Change Printer Specify which printer is to be used,
setup printer-specific options.
The Edit Menu
Command Usage
Cut Put the current selection into the
clipboard and delete from diagram. Or
press DELETE.
Copy Put the current selection into the
clipboard and leave the diagram
unaffected. Or press F2.

Paste Copy the contents of the clipboard into
the diagram. Or press INSERT.
Delete Delete the current selection from the
diagram. Or press SHIFT + DELETE.
Select All Select all Components on a page for a
block edit operation. Or press CTRL + A.
The Toolbox Menu and Window
Choices can be made from the Toolbox window with either the
mouse or the keyboard. Choices can also be made from the
Toolbox Menu on the main window.
If you want to: Do this:
Draw new Processes, Click on Component Icon with mouse
Data Stores or until desired symbol appears in the
Externals Toolbox. Or choose name of desired
Component from the Toolbox menu.
Manipulate existing Click on Component Icon with mouse. Any
Components Component on the page can be
manipulated, without regard to the
particular symbol shown as the
Component Icon. Or choose the name of
any Component from the Toolbox Menu.
Work with Data Flows Click on the Data Flow Icon. Or choose
Data Flow from the Toolbox Menu.
Work with Text Click on the Text Icon. Or choose Text
from the Toolbox Menu.
Prepare to Cut, Paste Click on the Block Edit Icon. Or choose
or Move a group of Block Edit from the Toolbox Menu.
Components as a unit
Choose from the Hold down the CTRL key and press either
Toolbox with the the PLUS or MINUS keys from the NUMERIC
keyboard KEYPAD. The selection will be moved
between the Toolbox choices. Stop when
your choice is highlighted.
Hide the Toolbox from Choose Hide Toolbox from the Toolbox
view Menu. Or choose Close from the Toolbox
window's System Menu. Or double-click
on the Toolbox window's System Menu
Icon.

Move the Toolbox to a
different location Drag its title bar to a new location.
Or choose Move from the Toolbox
window's System Menu.
Find out the current Look at the numbers following "Loc" on
position of the mouse the Toolbox which show the distance
from the top-left corner of the page.
Find out the position Click on the Component and hold down
of a Component the mouse button. The "Loc" numbers
show the position of the top-left
corner of the Component.
Find out the size of a Click on the Component and hold down
Component the mouse button. The "Size" number
shows the Component's width and height.
Find out the current Look at the "Page" item on the Toolbox.

Command Usage
Character Specify typeface to be used for
descriptive text, Data Dictionary
information and reports.
Page Set page size, margins and default
Component size. Use the drawing grid.
Title Create title lines for printed diagrams.
Alter Defaults Save current page layout as default.
Restore Defaults Load the default values for page layout.
The Page Menu
Command Usage
Prev Move to previous page. Or press
CTRL+PAGE UP.

Next Move to next page. Or press
CTRL+PAGE DOWN.
First Move to first page. Or press CTRL+HOME.
Last Move to last page. Or press CTRL+END.
Owner Move to page containing Process which
owns current page, if any.
Skip Move to particular page. Or press F4.
Master Move to master headings page.
Refresh Redraw current page on display.
Ins Before Insert one page before current page. Or
press CTRL+INSERT.
Ins After Insert one page after current page. Or
press CTRL+SHIFT+INSERT.
Delete Delete entire current page. Or press
CTRL+DELETE.
Move Re-arrange order of pages.
The Dictionary Menu
Command Usage
Open Enable named data dictionary.
Close Disable usage of data dictionary.
Browse Browse through the Data Dictionary.
Reorganize Reorganize the Data Dictionary disk file
so that it takes up minimal space.
The Zoom Menu
Command Usage
Full Size Display diagram actual size. Or press
CTRL+1
50% size Display diagram 50% of actual size. Or
press CTRL+5.
75% size Display diagram 75% of actual size. Or
press CTRL+7.

200% size Display diagram 200% of actual size. Or
press CTRL+2.
Fit in Window Display diagram such that it fits into
the current window in its entirety
regardless of window size. Or press
CTRL+W.
