FAMILY HISTORY SYSTEM
Sample Session
You are about to begin a sample session of the Family History System.
Before printing any reports you must first create a set of family files.
The key sequence for creating a set of family files and preparing to
enter information in the first record is: F1,F3,Esc,F2
You will notice that each person in the files has a "record ID" assigned.
This number indicates the order in which the individual's "NAME" record
was created (the 123rd person entered is assigned record ID number 123).
These ID's are used to establish the relationship between parent and
child by entering the parent ID's in the child's record.
All system options are function-key selectable from a menu appearing on
the screen. I hope you have taken the opportunity to read Section 3 of
the system manual (GO VIEW SECTION3) which describes many of the design
features of the system, including conventions for updating formatted screen
displays. You should at least be aware that TAB (SHIFT+TAB) keys are
used to move to the next (previous) updatable field on the screen.
When in doubt about how to progress, pressing the ESCape key will usually
get you back to familiar ground.
