***** EMERGENCY MISSION *****
-------------------------------
You are the pilot of an aging but serviceable high-altitude
starship, flying high above the planet on a routine patrol.
Suddenly, your scanner detects an enemy fleet attacking the
planet far below you. From your scanner, you can see that
the enemy fleet consists of three types of ships: scouts,
destroyers, and battleships. And all three types are dropping
the dreaded "Bio-Bombs," bombs that carry an infectious plague
so devastating that enough of them could kill every person on
the planet!
Armed with only your Zero-to-Intermediate Photron missles (ZIPS),
you must single-handedly defend your planet by shooting down all
of the enemy ships (while allowing your own medical ships to pass
through) before you run out of fuel. And even if you somehow
manage to defeat the enemy fleet, you must still discover a cure
for the plague by calculating the EXACT amounts of drugs that will
cure the victims!
IF YOU FAIL, EVERY BEING ON YOUR PLANET WILL DIE FROM THE PLAGUE!!!
PART ONE:
--------
In the first part of the game, your objective is to shoot down (or
scare off) at least 50 enemy ships before your fuel runs out. You
do this by manuevering the targeting indicator at the bottom of your
scanner nd firing "ZIPS" at the enemy ships.
Your gun can only fire five "ZIPS" at a time. After the fifth one
has been fired, you must wait for the gun to recharge (ie. until a
ZIP clears the screen) before you can fire another ZIP. The "ZIP"
area at the top of your scanner indicates how many ZIPS are still
available to be fired.
Also located at the top of your scanner are indicators showing the
amount of fuel remaining and the number of enemy ships you have
destroyed.
There are four types of ships that may appear on your scanner:
enemy scout, destroyer, and battleships, and friendly medical ships.
The medical ships can be identified by their white color and the
unique sound they make if you should accidentaly shoot one down!
You should make every effort to avoid shooting the medical ships.
They are delivering serum for you to use in trying to cure the
plague later in the game. The more medical ships that get through,
the more serum you will have to work with!
In addition, you should try to destroy the enemy fleet as quickly
as possible. The quicker you do so, the fewer "Bio-Bombs" will be
dropped and therefore the longer each patient will live in the next
part of the game. And the longer each patient lives, the more time
you have to find a cure!
The following keys are active during this part of the game:
, = Moves the target indicator to the left.
. = Moves the target indicator to the right.
/ = Fires a ZIP.
F1 = Toggles sound on/off (valid throughout entire game).
PART TWO:
--------
In the second part of the game, you are working as a research doctor
in the emergency room of a beseiged hospital. You have a limited
amount of serum to work with, as indicated by "SERUM ON HAND" at
the top of the screen. This serum is made up of three separate
drugs, coded as "A", "B", and "C". Previous research has shown
that a combination of these drugs may produce a cure for the plague.
To find the cure, you must test various combinations of the drugs on
patients infected with the plague. Ech patient will die within a
short time if a cure is not found (the time remaining to each patient
is indicated by the "TIME" field at the top of the screen).
After a patient has entered the treatment room, you must enter three
two-digit numbers at the bottom of the screen, one number for each
of the three drug types A, B, and C. (You do NOT need to press the
<ENTER> key after the last number. Also, you may use the <BACKSPACE>
key to erase all numbers entered and start over.)
The closer you get to the correct combination of the three drugs
(the cure), the higher the patient's blood cell count will get, as
indicated at the top of the screen by the "BLOOD CELLS" area.
The following keys are active during this part of the game:
0 - 9 = Number keys at top of keyboard for entering drug amounts.
Backspace = Erases all numbers at bottom of screen.
F1 = Toggles sound on/off.
THE CURE IS FOUND WHEN THE PATIENT'S BLOOD COUNT GOES UP TO
1,000,000 CELLS! ***** GOOD LUCK !!! *****
