Touch Type Tutor - Version 2.
-----------------------------
Touch Type Tutor (TTT) is designed to help you learn touch typing
and to improve your skills if you already know how to type. It does
this through a series of carefully-planned lessons, speed tests, and
a game. On-line help is available when you need it. The program is
very easy to install and use.
TTT keeps track of your progress as you learn, always presenting you
with an appropriate level for learning.
System Requirements
-------------------
TTT will run on any IBM-compatible computer. It requires 128K of
RAM. The program can use monochrome or color monitors.
Installation
------------
Install TTT by copying all its files onto a floppy disk or into a
directory on your hard disk.
Running TTT
-----------
Insert your TTT floppy disk into drive A: or use the CD command to
change to the directory containing the TTT files. At the system
prompt, give the command, TTT <Enter>, to start the program.
Once you've started the program, you'll see a menu. There are
several menus used in the program, and each works the same way. Use
the cursor keys to highlight the menu selection you want to use,
then press <Enter> to carry out the command.
In each menu, one of the selections is "Help." If you choose this
selection, you'll see one or more screens of information about the
choices in that menu. Just follow the screen instructions, and
you'll find the program easy to use.
When performing one of the exercises used in the program, type the
characters exactly as they appear on the screen. Press <Enter> at
the end of each line. If you type an incorrect character, the
program beeps, and the cursor remains on the incorrect character.
Just type the correct character to move on.
One of the choices in the tutorial exercise menu displays a sample
keyboard, showing the keys used for that lesson, along with
information about finger placement. As you finish each exercise, the
program will tell you how you're doing and record your progress in a
file.
The speed test portion of the program uses several files to test your
typing speed. These files are typical of the types of text you'll
encounter in different jobs. If you like, you can even create your
own files for these tests.
The style files for the speed test are standard ASCII files, which can
be edited if you want to expand or modify them. Use an ASCII text
editor or save your files in pure ASCII format with your word
processor. There is no limit to their length, but they will be split
into 11-line screens automatically when the test is running. As
supplied, they are 11 or fewer lines long, as this has proved
sufficient to accurately measure a typist's speed without wasting time
with lengthy material.
The game portion of the program is an excellent way to improve your
mastery of the keyboard while having fun. Five levels of difficulty
let you start out easy, graduating to more difficult levels as you
make progress. Like the other routines, help is one of the menu
options.
