DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and
continue using it, you are expected to register. Individual
programs differ on details -- some request registration
while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period.
With registration, you get anything from the simple
right to continue using the software to an updated program
with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with
a few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors
are accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors,
and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases,
there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference
is in the method of distribution. The author specifically
grants the right to copy and distribute the software, either
to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example, some
authors require written permission before a commercial disk
vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
You should find software that suits your needs and
pocketbook, whether it's commercial or Shareware. The
Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because
you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low,
prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for
it.

DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of "VIDEO BUFF" must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
"VIDEO BUFF is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness
for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for

use of VIDEO BUFF."
VIDEO BUFF is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it
with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or
as part of another system. The essence of "user-supported"
software is to provide personal computer users with quality
software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive
for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
find this program useful and find that you are using
VIDEO BUFF and continue to use VIDEO BUFF after a reasonable
trial period, you must make a registration payment of $22.00
to CACHE MICROSYSTEMS. The $22.00 registration fee will
license one copy for use on any one computer at any one
time. You must treat this software just like a book.
An example is that this software may be used by any number
of people and may be freely moved from one computer location
to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being
used at one location while it's being used at another. Just
as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
Commercial users of VIDEO BUFF must register and pay for their
copies of VIDEO BUFF within 30 days of first use or their
license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
by contacting CACHE MICROSYSTEMS.
Anyone distributing VIDEO BUFF for any kind of remuneration
must first contact CACHE MICROSYSTEMS at the address below
for authorization. This authorization will be automatically
granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering
to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering VIDEO BUFF immediately
(However CACHE MICROSYSTEMS must still be advised so that
the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
version of VIDEO BUFF.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of VIDEO BUFF along to your
friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
their copy if they find that they can use it. All
registered users will receive a copy of the latest version
of the VIDEO BUFF system.
Copies of this program may be given to others for evaluation
but cannot be sold or used as a promotion for other sales
without express written permission from CACHE MICROSYSTEMS.

VIDEO BUFF USER'S MANUAL Version 1.32
1. INTRODUCTION
"VIDEO BUFF" is a easy to use system for keeping track
of Video Tapes. This program will allow the user to keep
separate entries for each program recorded on a given video
tape.
There are several fields kept for each video tape entry.
Including author of tape , star, co star, film rating, film
editor, film photographer, comment or film description,
length of the film and location of the recording on the
video tape. Other information stored on the video tape is
listed in the appendices.
All these features plus a unique subject search features
allows the user to quickly locate any film recording by
either author, star, title, subject or film description.
This program is good for both the home video tape recording
and those who edit video tapes for a living. Keeping track
of short subjects is a breeze on Video Buff.
The menu driven format allows the user to quickly learn the
program without the use of a manual.
The printed output allows the user to keep up to date copies
of there video library and print labels for each individual
video tape.
NEW CONCEPT - VIDEO BUFF uses a different concept for video
tape tracking. The concept revolves around record albums
where each video tape has a master tape number and title
and each recording is listed as a song would be listed on
an album. If the video tape has only one recording the
information can be kept in the master tape number and title
if more than one recording per tape is desired they should be
entered in the sub entries for the given tape.

6. HELPFUL HINTS
This section gives the user helpful information to increase
the use of VIDEO BUFF.
Selecting video tape titles - Video Buff records information
in a two levels. The format is broken up just like a record
album where the album has a title and a series of songs for
this album. It is recommended the user use Video Buff in
this same manner for maximum efficiency. A brief
description is listed below.
The first level will contain the title of the video
tape itself as stored on the shelf. Use this for video
tapes with only one recording on it such as a purchased
home movie.
The second level contains all information for each of
the recordings on the tape. Use the first level for a
composite of all recordings(i.e. I Love Lucy Shows).
Then enter the specific shows as video tape entries
Finding Video Tapes - When searching for video tape it is
best to only enter the first few letters of the desired.
Let the program search the database for you. The select the
desired entry.
Comments/Description - The comment/description field is very
useful for the subject search feature. always put a brief
description of the recording in this field.
Saving the database - Try to always use a blank high density
disk(1.2MB) when saving the database. This will insure the
maximum storage for the database.
