TimeSaver+ Version 2.8
Enhancements
The following text describes features not present in prior versions of
TimeSaver. This file should be appended to TS.DOC or kept with the user
manual for registered copies.
(1) Command Line Parameters:
When executing TimeSaver, up to three(3) parameters may be given
after the command "TS".
Format: "TS [drive] <date> <new>" where []=required ; <>=optional
Examples: TS C: 01/25/86 (start TS at January, 1986, files on C:)
TS C: new (start TS and convert files on C:)
The argument "-nc" is no longer used. The use of color displays is
automatically sensed at execution time. The drive where calendar
files reside is now a mandatory parameter allowing the user to keep
different calendars on different directories or diskettes. A date
parameter in the format MM/DD/YY may be optionally added to cause
initialization at other than the default current date. Version
2.8 data files are not compatable with previous releases. The "new"
parameter provides for converting old calendar databases to the new
format and should only be used the first time version 2.8 is run
with existing calendars. Note: Registered users may use the utility
"Clean up calendar database" to perform this conversion.
WARNING: Do not copy or restore the empty calendar files TS.CAL and
TS.LOC if you intend to use your old files.
(2) Add Command:
The Add command now allows the selection of several types of "whole
day" events in addition to the conventional variable time events.
An day (6:30 AM - 4:30 PM) can be tagged as HOLIDAY, VACATION,
TRAVEL, SICK, SCHOOL, PERSONAL, or DUTY. If any of these special
events is selected, the block will fill the entire top row of the
day and the type will be displayed inside the block i.e. HOLIDAY.
The evening hours are still available for general scheduling except
in the case of the special type NIGHT DUTY which blocks out the
entire bottom row or 4:30 till Midnight in which case general
events may be scheduled during the daytime hours 6:30 AM to 4:30
PM. This feature provides a month-at-a-glance "quick look" ability
for those times when entire days are filled with one event.
The sequence and appearance of the Add command has been changed to
incorporate the menu for the special days. This menu now appears
after "Add" has been selected from the main menu. If the event to
be added requires general scheduling, i.e. selectable beginning and
ending times, the user simply presses [Return] selecting "GENERAL"
from the menu. He will then be prompted to position the pointer to
the beginning time as always. Once selected, the beginning time
will appear below the calendar at the left side of the screen and
the prompt to position the pointer to the ending time will be
displayed. As the pointer is moved with the [+] key, a flashing
block will appear and expand under the pointer indicating the start
position and the length of the event. Once the ending time has been
chosen, it will be shown below the calendar and the prompt for the
purpose of the event will be shown "below" the calendar instead of
in the window as with previous releases. After the purpose has been
typed and entered, the flashing block will change to a constant
block indicating that the event has been accepted.
(3) Info Command:
Information files are no longer limited to 10K characters, however,
the size is limited by the amount of memory installed in the user's
computer. The filename of the Info file may now be changed before
saving it to disk allowing edited versions which can be accessed
from other events. This capability is useful for creating templates
which can be loaded initially with one filename and then the filled
form can be saved under a different name preventing overwriting the
template file. This feature is invoked with the [F9] key "NewFi"
after the [F10] key has been pressed to exit the edit mode. The
system now returns the user to the main screen with the pointer
located where it was left before entering the Info edit mode rather
than at the current day.
