!!END-DATA!!
BRIEF SUMMARY OF EVENTS
-----------------------
Solar activity was high today. Region 6891 (S12W75) spawned a major
class M9.0/1B tenflare at 06:52 UT. This event was apparently not associated
with any major Type II or IV sweeps, although radio bursts were moderately
impressive. It is not expected to have a terrestrial impact. Also of note
today was a very long duration class M4.8 xray flare which began at 16:05 UT,
peaked at 17:07 UT and ended at 18:50 UT. This was preceded a few hours
earlier by another, more impulsive class M3.8 xray event at 11:52 UT.
Region 6891 is still capable of producing another isolated major flare
and may do so over the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, Region 6891 will
pass beyond the west limb and will end its supreme reign of the solar disk
over the past two weeks. It is expected to return to the east limb in a
significantly simpler and less threatening configuration, but may still be
capable of producing the odd isolated minor M-class flare. No other
significant solar events were reported today.
Geomagnetic and auroral activity rapidly stabilized early in the UT day.
Conditions became quiet to unsettled by 06:00 UT. Activity has remained
relatively dormant since then. Conditions are expected to be quiet to
unsettled with possible active periods during the local evening and early
morning hours. High latitudes may experience brief periods of minor storming
during these local hours, although any observed storm activity is not
expected to be energetic.
HF propagation conditions remained depressed today over all regions.
Some improvements began to be observed later in the UT day. Conditions
should continue to improve. A return to more normal conditions is expected
by 04 or 05 November.
