BRIEF SUMMARY OF EVENTS
-----------------------
Several optically uncorrelated C-class x-ray bursts were observed today.
The largest event was a class C8.1 x-ray burst at 08:08 UT. The actual
origin of these x-ray bursts is unknown at the present time. There is a
chance a region just beyond the east limb produced these events, although no
surging was observed in conjunction with these x-ray bursts. It is still too
early to say for certain. Several small regions are due to return over the
next 24 to 48 hours (old Regions 6806 and 6803).
Region 6824 (S23W36) is continuing to decay and is no longer thought to
be capable of producing an isolated M-class flare. However, C-class flares
will remain possible from both Region 6824 and from stable Region 6832
(N07E29).
Three new regions were numbered today: Region 6835 (S25E08), 6836
(N23E19) and 6837 (N16E19).
The solar flux is expected to remain fairly stable (if not decline
slightly) over the next 48 hours. Old Region 6805 is due to return near
20-21 September and is the only semi-major region anticipated to return in
the near future.
Geomagnetic activity was quiet today. Auroral activity was also quiet.
HF propagation conditions were mostly normal today. Conditions are
expected to remain normal over the next 72 hours at least.
