WHAT DO I DO NOW?
Welcome to PC Security Menu Utilities! You will use this module to
create and update the menu files used by PC Security. For more
information on the UTILITY OPTIONS, see their individual descriptions
on the following pages.
On this screen you will select an option which will either send you
to the Menu Editor (F1 or A - T), add or delete an entire MENU (F3,
F4), search your drive(s) and automatically enter the proper
information in the menu files (F2), or exit this module.
If you select F1 (Edit Menu Data File), you will be looking at a
complete listing of all of the ITEMS that are entered into PC Security.
If you select A - T you will be looking at only the ITEMS configured
for the selected MENU.
If you select F2 (Automated disk search), you will be prompted for
the LEVEL (see LEVEL definition) then you will be asked to select
which drive(s) to search and which filetypes to search for. This
selection will search ALL DIRECTORIES of the selected disk.
If you select F3 (Delete a Menu), you will be prompted for the MENU
to delete. Then all of the ITEMS in that menu will be deleted from
the menu files.
If you select F4 (Add a Menu), you will be prompted for a MENU NAME,
then the edit screen will appear and you may enter ITEMS (or use the
ALT+F (help finding files) to browse and select files to add.
If you select F9 (Shell to DOS), you will sent to the DOS screen and
may do any DOS function. Type EXIT to return to PC Security. You may
change drives, directories ect. and when you return to PC Security, we
will make automatically return you to the directory that PC Security
is on.
If you select F10 (Return to Main Menu), you will be returned directly
to the Main Menu without returning to the Menu Maintenance screen.
DEFINITIONS:
ITEM (or MENU ITEM) - An ITEM is the name that you give to a
program for use in PC Security. It can be the name of
the program itself, or a name (or short description) that
you can recognize as being that program. For instance,
if you wanted to put PC Security in you menu, the program
(actually it's a .BAT file in this instance) you want to
call is " CONTROL.BAT ". You could use " CONTROL.BAT "
as the ITEM NAME, but you would probably want to use
" PC Security " or even " A Neat Menu Program " for the
ITEM NAME.
MENU (or MENU NAME) - Just like it sounds. A MENU is a heading
for a list of ITEMS that you want to group together. All
ITEMS that have the same MENU NAME will appear in the same
MENU.
UTILITY OPTIONS:
F1 - Edit Menu Data File:
The Menu Data File (MAINMENU.DAT) contains all of the menu
information on every MENU ITEM that has been created for
PC Security. Use this if you want to move a MENU ITEM
to a different MENU, change data in several MENUS, or
any time you want to look at all of the data in the
Menu Data File.
F2 - Automated disk search:
This function allows you to search entire drives (up to 10
drives at a time) for .BAS, .BAT, .COM, and .EXE files.
It finds all of these files on the selected drives and
adds them to the Main Menu Data File in the proper format
for PC Security to use. Please note that you will get a
lot of files with this option (all of the selected types
for the whole drive(s) that you select), so if you only want
to add a few, or all files in a specific directory you may want
to use the ALT+F option from the EDIT screen.
F3 - Delete a Menu:
This function allows you to delete all of the ITEMS in a
selected MENU quickly.
F4 - Add a Menu:
This function allows you to add a new MENU. You can also add
MENUS from the Edit Menu Data File function (F1).
F9 - Shell to DOS:
This selection will temporarily SHELL you to DOS. (Type EXIT
to return to PC Security.)
F10- Return to Main Menu:
This selection takes you directly to the Main Menu module of
PC Security, bypassing the MENU MAINTENANCE module.
ESC- Exit:
This selection takes you back to the MENU MAINTENANCE module
of PC Security.
ATL+H - Help:
This selection lists help screens.
CHOOSE A MENU TO EDIT:
Use this function to edit individual MENUS. Selecting a
MENU to edit will list only ITEMS in the selected MENU.
This function is useful when you want to quickly make a
change to a MENU ITEM record. You won't have to search
through all of the items in the Menu Data File to locate
the ITEM you want to edit. Use this option to add, delete,
and modify ITEMS in a particular MENU. (NOTE: The edit
functions are are identical to those in the F1 function.)
