OCR: T Deeply Disturbed INFO: Interview W i t h Age: 22 deeply disturbed Place of Origin: Montreal, CAN. Group: Twilight (founder) 6 Favorite Show: Larry's Painting Favorite Snack: Sour Patch Kids Favorite BBS: Dislogic ALT-176: How did you first get involved in drawing ansis? Deeply D: Got convited of date rape and while in prison was introduced to ansi by my cell mate .. * SLAP* Like every other lamer i wanted free warez. {laugh} ALT-176: So in the beginning, you started drawing ansis motivated by warez? Did you join any group immediately, or were you "freelance" for a while .. just drawing for warez sysops? Deeply D: Yeah, I wanted to get hooked up with all the latest cya games by sierra with my speedy 1200 baud modem. I was mad elite. ALT-176: CGA? 1200 baud? What year was that? I'm assuming sometime in the late 80's. Deeply D: I joined hype in 91. That was my first group, like 4 months after I started drawing. ALT-176: Do you remember some of the groups that were around when you first started? Any that inspired you? Deeply D: Ack. Nope, other then AAA when I first started. Then came ACiD, GRiM - all that good stuff. Oh, and I'll mention NC-17 cuz' Cardiac will get a kick out of it. {grin} ALT-176: let's talk about "Hype" a bit. How long did it last? Deeply D: Uhm. . well, there are 3 Hypes in scene history. There's the old warez wanna-be Hype around 1990. Then there's Hype, the ansi group, from 91 which lasted about 4 months, and the new one these days also called Hype. ALT-176: 4 months. I suppose that's pretty much average, really. Were there any other guys in the "1991 Hype" that went on to join bigger groups like yourself? .. or was it basically just some lame local group? Deeply D: Uhmmm, it was based in the New York area - not sure about the area code anymore. Shadow Demon was the guy that ran it. I think he joined Max in like early 93 but thats pretty much it. ALT-176: Max rings a bell. I believe my board was a distribution site for that group at some point. Deeply D: Yeah. Max was pretty cool. They were branded as the next big thing, but like all others died out. ALT-176: I know some old school artists started out on WWIVNet, while others went right to the bigger more elite nets Where did you first start posting your ansis? Deeply D: WWIV net, of course. That was the place to be, man. You couldn't get any more "elite" than WWIV in those days {grin} ALT-176: heh .. or so we liked to think. I thought it was cool back then, too. ( That's where I started out, too) Deeply D: There you go. We were all "lame" and we liked it. ALT-176: Did you leave Hype as a result of it just "dying," or what happened? Deeply D: Oh, I just left before it died. I didn't really care about ANSI back then, and i sucked at it. < grin> ALT-176: And did you immediately join another group? Deeply D: Nah. I quit the "scene" 'till later 92. I hung around for a few months doing nothing, then joined a local group called Opium. ALT-176: Do you remember at what point you started to drift away from doing ANSI * just* for warez, and started doing it because you enjoyed it? Deeply D: Uhmm . . 1994. < grin> Actually, make that late 93. ALT-176: Seriously? So you pretty much drew ansis off and on for about 3 years or so - just for warez? Deeply D: Yeah, I just didn't give half a shit what went on in the scene, 'till I met up with Maestro and joined Eternity. He gave me a shot at becoming good and he helped me out alot, so that motivated me and in turn made me appreciate drawing more. {continued . . } 13
